I don't have a Tacoma but I wanted a RTT on my topper and came across this conversation. Based on the information I read here, I think my setup should be fine... here's my setup. It'll only be one of my kids (140lbs) and my wife (160lbs) up there.

RTT is TopBee on Rhino Racks (2 cross bars) on a Leer Topper 100XR.

I know this is an old post but I’m going to throw my 2 cents in the hat since I’ve received a ton of great knowledge and info off of this forum and I’ve only owned my first taco for 6 months now.

I just ordered an ARE CX topper from a reputable dealer here in NJ. From all the research I have done and the info received from the dealer and ARE is the static weight FAR surpasses the dynamic weight allowances for your toppers.

And if you are purchasing one of the newer toppers from ARE with a roof rack system installed by them then those roofs are reinforced already. The weight is also distributed along the rack system.

I see guys on the beach with old school toppers from all walks of life in regard to their brands and I’ve asked them about any weight issues and none of them ever had issues.

So if your buying a new topper or picking one up second hand with a rack system already they installed from the topper company your good to go. If you are adding a rack system to an older topper just make sure its rated for a high static weight rating.

    Tight lines!
