Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Came across an old, abandoned FJ40 in the woods once. It looks to have gotten stuck or broke down there and the owners just left it. Common in Montana, rich city folks come up here to hunt each year and buy brand new trucks or 4x4s and guns and just resell them after hunting season is over, probably what happened to that 40 I would guess, it was no loss for a rich hunter. All the running gear except the axles had been stripped out of it, one fender, the doors and the hood I believe were all gone. Never took a pic since I had no camera with me that day.

I found a life size fiberglass Ronald McDonald in the woods. Someone had stolen it from a McDonalds Playplace. It freaked me out walking up on this in the woods

No?! I guess I missed out big time on that one! I know there is a very small army base between the two. The only time I could see it was from the lights at night.

To the west off of I84, exit 74. Looks like some developer bought the site - lots of activity on Google maps. I was stationed at Mnt. Home in the mid 80's. We would go exploring. Lots of tunnels, a large room, some silos with cars at the bottom. Had to crawl through a lot of dirt because of the cave-ins. We were young and stupid but it was fun!

    Cool Thread!

Here's something we went to go see this past weekend at the BC meet:

This is an abandoned railroad tunnel that was part of the Beech Creek line which ran from Lockhaven Pa to Snowshoe Pa.

Further down the line from the tunnel is what remains of the bridge abutments of another crossing of Beech Creek:

Though mostly overgrown you can see that this was a decent span at one time.

About halfway between this crossing and the tunnel we saw this old marker:

    Simply says: JS 34

The rail bed still exists for the length of the run but the rails were pulled sometime in the 50's or 60's I believe.

There are two bridges that are still standing on the line
Here is one that was "re purposed" for vehicular traffic:

There is another smaller span between the towns of Monument & Orviston that is still there but I did not get a chance to take a pic of it this trip.

From what I can tell there were 5 or 6 other bridges along this line... I wanted to take more pics of those remains but due to recent rain the crossings were too deep (not everyone has a snorkel).

I hope to do some more exploring in this area later on this summer...

Ben, Fred, or Matt may be able to speak more to the history of this as they live in Beech Creek. (I think this line actually runs almost though Ben's backyard!)

If anyone is interested in this type railroad history, here is a great site:
    http://www.abandonedrails.com/default.aspx

    Thank you!
    ~ Craig

I have an abandoned line that is only 1/4 Mile from my house. On that site I posted it is called the Fox Chase - Newtown Line. No activity since 1988 and about 3 miles of the rails were pulled.
It was running when I was a kid and I think it's why i have a fascination with this topic...

    Me too...

I've got a shot somewhere from a rock cut on the Fox Chase - Newtown line that's pretty cool - The rock face broke apart & there are big boulders on the tracks...

Gotta see if I can find them.

The last two I posted were walking shots...
They were taken in an area that is now an ecological preserve.
Very fun place to visit - been biking & hiking with the family there a couple times since the weather got nice. :D
