I've worked as an equipment operator in construction and mining for many years and have been in some deep excavations and had the opportunity to wander through a few quarries. Here are some things, while not technically found "in the woods", I think are still pretty cool. Maybe you'll think so too.

The first two pics are of a calcite crystal, calcium carbonate, I found in a quarry not far from my home. If there are any geologists reading this and you're interested, it was found in the stratigraphic layer of limestone known in Kansas and Missouri as "Bethany Falls", from the Missourian age, about 299 to 323 million years old. The dollar bill is for perspective, this is about the size of a tennis ball.

The other side of the same crystal.

Next are a couple of chunks of Iron pyrite and calcite, from the "Argentine limestone member" found outside of Paola Ks. These have a lot of iron in them, they are much heavier than the larger calcite crystal above.

Next is another calcite crystal formation, from the "Spring Hill limestone" found near Garnett Ks.

Next is an extinct relative of the snail known as an ammonite. Don't remember where I found this one.

And last is little ammonite's big brother. This thing weighs around 70 pounds which is why I didn't carry it outside to take its picture. This is from the same location as the calcite in the first two pics.

    Just the basics
I thought this looked familiar for some reason. Great movie yet quite unnerving at the same time.

Went for a bike ride and found a little dirt trail leading off in the woods. Thought i would follow it. Took me out to the lake nearby. this car has been here for a while. all the wood where i'm standing was washed up from the lake being flooded 2 months earlier. Hard to believe the water was all the way up here.

I'll have to try and get a pic, but theres some clearcutting/logging going on and it appears they found an old vehicle! Ive been in there a few dozen times and never saw it! Now I can see into the clear cut and its right in the open!

I didn't see him. But to be fair he could have been out herding sheep, pluckin chickens, or Yoga class.
