Everything was working when shut it off. Went to start and dash lights came on like always. Hit key and everything went dead. Repeated attempts nothing. 10 minutes later comes back on until attempt to start then everything dead again. Battery had slid up against radiator as our drive is very rough as in need 4 X 4 to use it after a rain. Found had pulled ground wire to body off when battery slid. Fixed that and still same problem.

Waited and everything came back on so rolled down the hill popped clutch and it runs fine. Looks as the wire that is supposed to have fuseable link has been replaced with solid wire. Dead short in starter all at once seems strange. Anyone else ran into this? Did a search but never found this mentioned.

You might have broken another ground and it is being help in place by the insulation .

Also the cable to the starter as well could have been damaged.

Pray tell why is your battery able to move??

Long story short on battery moving. I have only had this truck 2 weeks. I am beginning to think it is a lemon from the word go. 2nd day had it bottom ball joint separated and killed CV joint as well. I am still finding out what all is wrong with it. It has stopped kicking the breaker now after I moved wires around some and disconnected the 5 lights wire they have on the roll bar. They were run on a cut off drop cord made of 16 gauge wire and a 40 amp breaker. I will be getting a new hold down bolt for the battery along with finding the direct short. BTW still no starter but when let off the key from start position the speedometer jumps to about 40 MPH.

I do believe though not confirmed yet the fuseable link is now a solid wire.

Well if all the trucks were perfect no one would ever sell them.

I always end up spending another $1000.00 or more in parts

Agreed on that. Power steering just started the growling when turn the wheel so figure to do the flush and refill on it as well. Tried the thump on the starter trick to no avail. Got one on order be here in 5 to 7 days. Have you done the fog the engine with seafoam deal? If so did it help or is it a imagination thing? This 98 is more of a dog on hills then the wife's 95. Hers does have about 50,000 less miles on it though as well. Neither appear to have lead a real sheltered life.

105 heat index out there now so doing my shade tree mechanics in installments as don't even have a good shade tree LOL.

Got the starter on and all is well it seems with that part anyway. Found a new problem while rolling around under it. Seems bolts are gone from transmission mount. been looking for a new mount but seems no one handles them for a 4 X 4 with the 2.7.

Definitely beats looking through the online parts listings, they never seem to have good matching pictures.
