    Hello All,
I have a 2005 tacoma with 205,000 miles. I have had it since it had 90,000 miles. I put an after market stereo and powered sub that goes under the driver's seat when I first bought it. I have installed many other simple aftermarket stereos in other vehicles without any problems. Other than that, truck is pretty much stock.
I was driving the other day and noticed my airbag lamp was on. It has never come on before. I thought weird, hopefully I don't have to start digging into a sensor issue. I drove like this for 30 minutes or so and turned the ignition all the way off but did not take the keys out or open any doors yet. The stereo turned all the way off, i could not roll up my windows. I just left it like that for 1/2 hour or so, pack up my stuff and started the truck again. I started the truck and everything was normal, no airbag indicator lamp on. I thought great. Its started to get dark so I turned on my lights. As soon I hit my lights, the dash, clock, and stereo lost power. Its took 2 or 3 seconds to come back on. The engine didn't die, I didn't loose power to the truck, just the dash and stereo lost compete power. I not sure if anything else happened, this is just what I noticed. After everything came back on, every thing was fine. I could turn off and on the lights without any power blinks. I drove like this for an hour or so till I needed gas. Shut off the truck, filled with gas, turned the truck back on and it happened once again. Does anyone have any ideas where to start looking? I guessing maybe a bad ground or bad connector somewhere.
Other things about truck. I bough it used. I noticed the previous owner had somehow disconnected the seatbelt dinging alarm. I installed a tractor supply led spotlight in the bed hooked to the rail system several years ago. I cant think of anything else that has been modified on the truck. Ideas?

Next outage test if horn works, based on the number of affected systems I am betting a short in fhe clockspring. Which is known issue that develops for some.

This might affect radio if you have steering wheel controls for audio or phone?? But you definitely have some type of shorting issue.

The last several starts have had no issues. Horn works, cruise control comes on (i did not try to set the cruise control, just pushed the button to see if the indicator light came on and it did) lights, blinkers, stereo all working as normal.
Also, I do not have any steering wheel controls. I did research the clock spring issue. I will see if my truck falls under the recall. thanks for the info.
