Weird issue - Startup chime

Taking my truck to the dealership tomorrow to look into a strange issue and I figured I'd check with you guys and see if you've ever seen this.

When you start the truck, there is a little chime that plays for 2-3 seconds. The sound seems to be coming from the center of the dash somewhere. Well, my truck started having issues with that chime, and now it'll just keep playing it over and over, every 10 seconds or so. It does not come from the Entune head unit like I originally thought. I removed the head unit and it still does it.

Anyone else had this happen?

I have a 17 and a 20 and never heard a chime out of either of them

 

I gotta ask the stupidest of stupid questions.

What's the dashboard doing? Any messages? Seatbelt light?

 

While driving? ------- Seat belt warning!

 

Do you have anything heavy in the passenger seat that will set off a alarm if no seat belt .tire pressure ?

 

Shouldn't be seat belt or tire pressure related. I just tried to go out there and record the sound and now its not doing it... I'll get it eventually.

There's nothing on the dash. When the issue is occurring, it happens in drive or in park, doesn't matter which.

 

Have kids? Did one of them just prank you with an annoy-a-tron?

If there are no messages or no dash lights then it's either a weird malfunction, or is a weird aftermarket doodad that's malfunctioning, or it's a prank.

 

Got any video? Curious what the chime sound is

 

haha sure would make for one hell of a prank. I was wondering if it could be an aftermarket doohickey goofin up, but I haven't found any culprit yet.

In any case, I think I need to cancel my dealership appt until I can get it on video/audio.

 

Any chance you have the factory Toyota dashcam? My wife has one in her 4Runner and that damn thing makes some weird chirps and chimes when it starts up... or does anything for that matter. If the memory card is removed, if you hit the brakes too hard, swerve... anything

 

Hmm, I don't, but you've got me thinking. I do have an aftermarket dashcam and haven't checked that yet. Maybe it's screwing up? Let me get out there and check it. You might have just saved me a lot of headache.

HaHa no worries man, glad it saved you a trip to the stealership. Every time I get in my wife's T4R and start it up I'm like man... that is annoying. But glad it worked out for you.
