hey guys maybe somebody here can point me in the right direction. So coming home Friday my taco was driving perfectly fine. Today I turned it on to go to the grocery store and when I engaged it in drive it lunged forward and then when turning left I’m hearing a clicking sound coming from the passenger side. I engaged 4wd to see if it would go away and when turning it struggled badly. What could it be. Binding axle?? Blown cv? I will be taking it to the dealer tomorrow morning but hoping they don’t blame it on my lift....

Please say you DID NOT engage 4WD on dry pavement while rolling. Big time NO NO.

Bottom line is, these trucks do not like lifts. Unless done the right way that keeps those CV’s in perfect geometry. Sorry but that’s just how it is.

I'm going to assume you meant to say 4WD Low. I routinely engage 4WD High on dry pavement while rolling....at least twice a month. I usually drive for 10 15 miles each time. I believe the owners manual even recommends doing this.

Don't understand your admonition against it...

Straight line driving is fine while in 4wheel drive high. Turning sharp at low speeds on dry pavement us very hard on the drive train. You will hear some strange sounds when doing this.

You are correct on driving in 4 high. The owners owner's manual is not clear about sharp turning while in 4high. It should be avoided. This prevents drive line binding.

On dry pavement it binds if you turn . If you do this often, it will damage your diff .

No guys I simply engaged 4hi and turned softly not a hard turn. It shouldn’t be a problem. Also I’m only lifted 2” with king 2.5 all around. Nothing crazy.

Just wondering if any of you have had this happen.

It's fine on pavement in a straight line, but if you turn in 4wd on pavement (4hi or 4low, doesn't make a difference) you will bind the front end. Do it enough and it'll snap a CV. Dont believe me, put it in 4hi and try to make a u-turn on pavement. The binding will practically bring the truck to a stop, assuming you dont snap an axle first.

Ideally you want to find a dirt or gravel road to exercise your 4wd system on.

Assumption is the mother of all *uck-ups. No, I was not referring to 4WD Low. Even in 4WD High it's not a good idea on dry pavement, unless traveling in a straight line. The only time I will engage 4WD on the road is when it is raining pretty good. The wet road does allow for some wheel slippage. Not sure if the Owners Manual suggests this or not, and if it did, I still wouldn't do it. But hey, it's your truck, do as you please.

I must give you SNAPS for the use of a word, Admonition: ad·mo·ni·tion /ˌadməˈniSH(ə)n/ noun noun: admonition; plural noun: admonitions
    1. an act or action of admonishing; authoritative counsel or warning.

Alright guys so update. It’s not the axle. It was a lodged wheel weight between the wheel and caliper. Thankful it was just that and not an axle lol

I just think some of us get involved with threads that involve a bunch of fuckery.

When a serious question comes up, we forget to put on our adult hats.

Hopefully it can be figured out that malice is not intended.

The problem is that we want to give you solid info, and people come into these threads spreading what they think is truth, but is actually retarded as fuck. When it comes to a critical component, facts are what is needed. A good source would be your manual.
