    Hey guys,
I just changed my oil for the first time since installing a catch can.
I was expecting it to catch oil but this liquid comes closer to water and smells like fuel.

    Naturally aspirated 2015 4.0l v6

    Normal?
    Condensation?
    *it is not a beer*

    Cheers!

What does the underside of your oil cap look like?

Just moisture. You take a lot of short trips? May want to think about changing your oil more often.

It looks like condensated oil like the same colour as the brew on top of the glass. But really not a lot so im not worried. I read its from the cold weather apparently. I will get a picture.

Yes 5min to work and back during the week and long highway drive during weekends. Will consider it.

Yup, that’ll do it. You don’t give the engine enough time to burn off the moisture, so it just settles into it. Recommend you cut your oil change intervals in half, or drive longer somehow.

Ok sounds good, I will adjust my driving accordingly.
So I guess the catch can is not a bad investment if it allows me to catch this stuff?

Warm vapor flowing through a cold catch can. Even on long drives, that catch can is going to stay cold.

Yep. I have read they create the perception that they're doing good (on a stock engine) for this reason.

If you change your oil often, there really isn’t a point to the catch can.

Mine looks like that and I drive 22min to work one direction. Truck is warmed up 2min before I leave. I change 2x a year, each time less than 5000 kms. Only my oil in the catch can looks like that, oil out the drain plug is nice and clear golden. Had a oil analysis done and the guy said the oil your tossing out is better then the oil some people put in the vehicles. I use Amsoil. I believe the catch can is a get investment.

Catch cans are good on direct injected engines because it helps prevent carbon buildup on the valves. The 4.0 is a port injected engine which means the valves get washed with fuel, so not really much need for a catch can.
