Truck makes a weird noise on cold start, it sounds like a squeaky noise and like a knock/rattle. It goes away once the truck comes to normal operating temperature. The noise is also affected when I press and depressed the clutch pedal.

I've taking it to two different shops and they can't tell me what's going on, as the noise goes away once the truck is warm and the noise is hard to detect.

    Please help.

What year is the truck? Can you post a video of the sound? The 4L are loud in general.

What’s the years for the secondary air pump system everyone hates??? 2012-2015?

If your truck has it and the noise goes away when it warms up, that could be your culprit.

The taco tick is normal, that other weird noise, which was more pronounced when you went near the undercarriage... I have no idea. Guaranteed someone here knows.

I've owned the truck 6 years now and that "taco tick" is something that just started to happen about a month ago as well with the squeaky noise.

Squeaky noise could be a pulley or belt. Run some fuel system cleaner in the tank and see if the tick goes away.

Could it be a belt? That is what it sounds like to me. Is the tensioner pulley going out?

I have the exact same squeal noise in my 14 MT I think its actually the throwout bearing since if I remove the accessory belt it still makes the noise. With regards to the tick, it's most likely just your injectors or valvetrain. I wouldn't worry too much about it unless concerned with prior ownership or improper maintenance specifically oil changes. This is going to sound absolutely absurd but I've had 4 Audi's and once they get over 150K I dump 1QT of Kerosene (Coleman Fluid) in the oil and let it idle for about 5 minutes when warm. Once the oil is changed the valvetrain is buttery smooth and the valvetrain is virtually spotless, I've borescoped the cylinder walls and they always return to the crosshatch pattern from the factory. I'm not recommending this for our Yoda's but it works a treat on high compression tight tolerance cars like Audi.

It's definitely not the belt, I just replaced it with the OEM serpentine belt. I inspected the pulleys and tensioner, they all seemed to be okay. I'm leaning towards the throw out bearing, as the squeak seems to be affected by the movement of the clutch pedal.

Well... Just dropped it off at a transmission/clutch shop to get a diagnostic. Hopefully they can pinpoint the issue tomorrow.

Got the truck back last night, the tranny shop could nod determined the squeak/squeal for sure, I was told it could be a throw out bearing, the mechanic also said that the ticking noise is coming from the engine and advised me to take it to another shop to have the engine diagnosed. Not looking good .

On a positive note I just read that Toyota is about to to roll out the 2020 taco.

Unless you're worried I think you're all good. I'd save your money for beer!

That doesn't sound right at all. The noise your talking about doesn't seem to change with RPM's that much? Maybe it's just the video, but what's the 'flutter' sound each time you press the gas?

I'd suggest, first step, wait until she is completely cold, like first thing in the morning. Pull the belt, start recording, start her up, jump on a creeper and let her run for 30-45 seconds and crawl around underneath looking, listening, recording noises without noise from the fan, etc.

Can you take a video shining a light through the oil fill tube with the engine running? Showing the oil spray on the chains?

What’s the advantage of fuel system cleaner? I’ve never tried it

The benefits are amazing... In Louisiana :) Doesn't do much to help your truck, but it's made from oil products. I have plenty of buddy's who work in the oil field, the more sales the better! :) Families to feed!

Is the squeak only in cold temperatures? Mine squeaks in the cold, but spraying some WD-40 on the pulleys makes it go away for a week.
