    Hey all,

2022 TRD Sport, with the 6MT so I have an H-Key.

Over the past few days my truck has been.. lazy? To respond to key inputs.

The most prominent problem is that when I’m done driving, and get out of the truck, it won’t lock .

Pressing it once or pressing it 50 times won’t change the behavior. It sit there unlocked.

BUT after trying it and verifying a few times: if I hit the unlock button a few times, it’ll eventually register and be all normal, it’ll let me lock and lock it with no hesitation or delay.

What gives? Anyone run into this before ?

I changed the batteries on both keys to no avail , both are doing the same behavior.

My wife's Subaru remote was doing this recently. I threw a new battery in it and it has been fine since. I didn't think it was the battery because it wasn't that old, but figured it was cheaper to try than a new remote.

Fob battery is weak and needs to be replaced.

Sorry guys I was half awake when I posted this , first thing I did was change the battery which I also thought could’ve been the culprit.

The unused second key received a new battery and same behavior.

    Are the 'new' batteries fresh?

    Or just previously unused?

I would consider coin cell batteries dead around 2.8v. Might be worth a quick test for the recently replaced ones in the keys.

Maybe disconnect the truck battery and the re connect, just a shot in the dark.
Like a computer when acting up, shut down and re start

Based on the Edit times logged on the two posts made by the OP, it appears he added the note about changing the battery to his original post.

At any rate, I'm be curious to see what's causing the lock to operate intermittently.

Does the beep that occurs with locking happen - the beep is from a noise maker in front of the battery.

If there is a beep the FOB/key is talking to the vehicle, and it may be an actuator within the door(s). That is another question does this happen on all doors or only the driver's door.

My wife's 2019 4Runner has a similar issue with the drivers side door lock when unlocking, apparently it's well documented but no recall as of yet.

When mine started doing that it was the fob batteriy, I'm with the others, make sure the new batteries are actually good.

no response from the truck when it misbehaves. No lights or anything.

Also to the person who suggested the battery disconnect , I will try this tonight ask well, can’t hurt , sadly I’m out of warranty so the ECU being problematic wouldn’t be covered but , let’s try it.

Appreciate the idea, yep I tested them with a multimeter and bought another pack of 4, 8 new good batteries and it’s still acting the same way.

Ok, I’m going from memory right now so give a bit of leeway. Try holding the key closer to the rear door windows of the truck, IIRC the receiver for the locks and the tires is located near the rear of the cab above the head liner. Have you applied some strange type of window tinting? If so try the front of the vehicle through the windshield. Any sound deadening? Just putting a few things out there.
