New to me 2020 TRD sport. It seems on a cold start shifting is awful and the truck lacks any power (I know, in general its a pig). It seems to try to shift and its almost like its in neutral and the rpm's go up to 3k and then it shifts. After about 2 minutes of driving all is well. Is this normal?

Have you checked the transmission fluid level? My truck came from the factory 1 quart low and had your symptoms.

LED interior, license plate, and fog lights. More to come.
Could be low fluid. As the fluid heats up it expands so it might just be low enough to act up when cold then get better as it's warms up. Unfortunately checking the fluid is not as simple as it was in the old days.

Cold as in -10*F? My '17 TRDOR is fine at -20*f, though I do not bring up the revs above 3000, I leave it in S2-3 until the coolant temp needle moves.

Most autos don’t work great when cold. You might need to lower your expectations. The 3G tranny has a heater to speed up the process of acting normal. My work F150 clunks like it’s gonna drop the tranny on the pavement if it’s slightly below zero C and it’s a brand new truck.

54k? Perfect time to do a drain n fill on the transmission, keep that fluid fresh and just keep doing them every 30-40k. 3 quarts is cheap and easy. While you are at it, you'll be checking the fluid level.

I'd like to quiz the genius who designed this thing so you can't check the fluid level
with a dipstick. Can anyone suggest a reason why they did away with this? Is it me?

Manufacturers have been getting rid of check holes on trannys for like 20+ years. Its not new. The idea is you shouldnt need to check it before service intervals anyways, so no need.

I can understand the theory - but it seems it's an item that should be filled to proper levels from the get-go.
