Evening everyone. Just bought a 23 TRD OR 4WD and love almost everything about it… except shifting. I’m sure this is a repetitive thread but hoping for some quick clarity. Shifting seems fine at higher speeds and sometimes when I drive it - shifts just like I would expect it to. Other times, it seems to prematurely upshift and pegs the RPMs at 1000. Is this part of the adaptive transmission process? When does it end? Not interested in a custom tune… just want this to settle in and drive like it’s capable of.

All I was looking for - appreciate it. Kind of figured it would even out - especially because I have glimpsed a few drives that were shifting Nirvana - but was hoping to hear a similar experience.

The Button according to my coworker cuz he has a third gen works a lot better in the shifting Department it shifts like shit when you don't use the button according to him although he doesn't always use it.

I would imagine as you're not driving like Mad Max you would be fine to be using the ECT button if that cures what ails you

Give it to around 1500 miles to settle in. Drive it normal. It's learning. Don't hotfoot it.

also you might want to be open minded about getting a tune , also pro tip when going up on a grade(hill) shift into S mode 4 , it will go up just fine

Part out. I call first dibs.

seriously though give it a few hundred more miles. Most seem to find their groove eventually.

Drive normal, it’s adaptive, so might let it “learn” before playing w the ECT button. It’ll probably smooth out for you.

It definitely has an adaptive logic. I started driving it like I hated it and it noticeably improved shift quality and response. I never use ect, if it needs assistance I use manual mode.

Appreciate everyone’s feedback. When it’s right, best vehicle I’ve ever had. Looking forward to that consistency in a few thousand miles

I'm not a fan of the shifting. The regear helped a lot though

For me-new Tacoma, owned for 5 months now-it took till around 1200 miles till it "equaled out", even now thought it shifts at inopportune times and I find myself using the ECT button. I would give it until at least 1200 then use the button as needed.
