Seemed like the issue was fixed, but no. I’m just considering it normal at this point. Eventually going to get OTT tune. Heard it makes things better, maybe not 100%, but much better.

    Stuff I don't need.
Hello everyone. I wanted to provide an update on this issue. I still have the shudder problem. I had tried to install separate tunes to see if that might help and it but after a couple of days but then went back to the original issue. Maybe it was in my head. I ended up driving my truck all the way up to Alaska and had to deal with the shudder all the way up. My lady said she doesn’t feel it…but it’s definitely still there. I use my truck for work every day I’m on the water. I take people fishing and I tow a boat, and it still shudders every damn day…. sometimes worse when I have the boat and I’m climbing up a mellow or steep mountain. I have not had time to go to Toyota. I need my truck for work and my schedule has been crazy. Luckily I have the 125,000 mile warranty on this thing so as soon as I have some time, I’m going to go deal with Toyota and see what they say. Now my question is, since I got a put on it are they going to give me shit? I guess I’ll find out and update ya hear. Yeah!!! Tacoma!!! Brand new 2023! I love it!!! Psssht. I should have got a tundra.

Toyota will do nothing for you, because there's nothing to do, and you shouldn't waste your time. They could replace every component of the drivetrain and it would do it again. The drivetrain is reliable, but poorly designed. It's that simple. It's mostly the transmission and the software. I also had a 19' 3.5 Highlander with the 8 speed, and while a few low gear transitions were rough (also unacceptable), it didn't have a hint of shudder and drove pretty nice in the higher end.

Drivability was supposedly a focus of the 4th gen. Hopefully they got it right. A lot of early adopters seem to have good things to say about how it drives. Personally, I'm kind of sick of shifting transmissions in the fuel economy era. It's always something with the way they drive. The EVs and e-cvts hybrids are just so effortless to drive by comparison if you can get away with that setup.

Toyota did nothing. Had a jolt on the highway a few days ago. Like the transmission slipped or the shudder decided to party harder than before. Guess this is just a 3rd Gen and how it drives? I’d love to sell it and get a 2nd Gen 4.0 again.

You drove the Alcan and your passenger never felt it?
How bad can it really be?

I know this is a heavily debated solution BUT, give mid grade fuel a try. I had similar issues/concerns and have been much happier with my truck since I switched to 89 octane.

Also consider the Shift Sense Pro (little box that uses S mode to change shift points) its a genius little kit for short money that is easily installed and removed DIY. It has 3 settings. I use the lowest setting and love it. I only use D mode when I REALLY care about fuel economy and don't mind a lil shudder here or there.
