I have 2wd, and it's the passenger side rear axle or wheel. It's a really loud screech when cruising. I'm not sure if it's from dirt, or something getting in there. I don't know what to do.

I would suggest you take it to someone who knows about brakes if you don't know what to do.

Funny noises emanating from the brake pad or shoe areas are seldom a good thing and can turn into a really bad thing when your braking goes all wonky when you need it the most.

You have something inside your drum, likely a part of the shoe hardware. Brake parts falling apart isn't good. It may not be an expensive fix but the longer it goes on, the more expensive it can be to repair. At the very least, pull the tire and rim and remove the drum, chances are very good that you'll see the problem.

The grinding stopped, after I washed it.

take off your drum and look for any obvious issues. if no issues are apparent, spray it all down with brake clean. just don't hit the brake shoe material.

    *edit*

yes i realize you may have already solved the issue, but making sure the issue wasnt half of your brake shoe lining falling off would be wise.
