    Hey y’all.

I have a first gen taco and have found some possible wiring issues. I’ve looked through old threads but haven’t found much. If any ones able to help me out that would be greatly appreciated!!

1). the clock on it is hit or miss. It literally only works in winter. Every time there’s a cold spell the clock will come on, but for the rest of the year, it won’t come on at all. Same with the drivers side headlight. It was ‘burnt’ out for a month and a half and as soon as it got cold out it started working again.

2). the radio deck I have in there is old, and it usually only works when the truck is off, with the accessory’s turned on. When the truck is on, the radio will turn off and on a lot, either stays off, and on the rare occasion it’ll stay on. I’ve taken the deck out, checked the wiring and all seems good. I’ll be getting a new deck eventually but don’t want to run into the same issues.

any thoughts about these? Anyone run into similar issues? the only thing I can think of is the grounds, but not sure where they are in relation to everything else, or if that would be the case.
    Thanks in advance!!

Maybe others will chime in, but I'd think you have a faulty ground wire, good luck figuring this out.

The Radio is factory ? Plugged into the Truck Harness?

If not you have work ahead of you.

When you checked the radio wiring was it visual or with your meter?

Does the radio save the preset stations ? Does the clock keep the time ?

intermittent open circuit might be fuses loose in the block just poor connections.

    Good luck!

The clocks are kinda flakey anyway, but the radio shouldn’t be doing that. That said, if they’re doing it together, that could mean something.

Should be grounded behind the kick panels:

The clue about the clock only working when cold makes me think broken solder connection. Get some wiring diagrams and start by figuring out where the radio and clock intersect, and do a thorough wiggle test on all harness/connectors. Something like this can be a real <female dog> to track down.

Something tells me the OP has a very poor install of a after market unit

    We will see.

Loose power wire somewhere for sure... jiggle all wire terminals you see while you replace the radio
