Just installed my shield today, had this same issue on my 2018 TRD OR. I just bent the hook down with needle nose pliers.

Other minor issue was that I couldn't get the wings flush with the frame without removing the frame drain plugs. Maybe I had the angle wrong? Guess I expected the straight part of the wing to line up with the frame, but other pics I've seen since have it angled inward? The truck in the instructions has definitely had the plugs pulled. Anyway, maybe I'll revisit this later and replace the plugs...

Otherwise it was a very straightforward install. Rhino Ramps gave me more than enough clearance to get it done.

I went with the standard hardware. Most of the cat thefts in my city seem to fall into two categories: 1) gone in ~30 seconds or 2) cut at some point after the car was stolen and driven away. Defeating the shield in scenario 1 means carrying a drill and the right bit, which seems unlikely; for scenario 2 they're gonna get the cat no matter what you do to protect it.

Forgot to snap a photo (I even had it on a lift so the photo would have been so easy) but the part fits just fine with the RCI front skid.

EDIT: Added photo to original shot on Sept 15, 2022.

I live in Houston and want one of these shields. My cat got stolen on November 13th and it will be another 6 weeks until I get my truck back.

Any way to get it locally to save on shipping cost?

I am not able to do a local pickup due to zoning. My only option is to ship them at this time.

Houston has no zoning. But that's okay. How much is the whole kit with shipping in Houston?

I guess I always considered an HOA a type of zoning.

It’s 360 shipped for the plate.

    HOAs can be a pain.

Does it come with the mounting screws or just the plate? How much is the shipping?

30 bucks shipping locally seems a bit absurd to me. But I am still interested.

It's probably a flat rate...I'm in Delaware so I guess us folks that are far away get a bargain.

    You'll love the CAT plate!

It is a 25 pound hunk of steel.

Shipping a 25 pound plate isn't cheap. Rates have really gone up with Christmas coming too.

Thanks for the coupon code, I was on the market looking for a cat protector as my cousins was just stolen off his CRV. Seeing his hassle was something I did not want to experience. I just purchased a cat protector from you. We’ll see how it goes.

If it’s local, you should pick it up to save $30 imo

These are the security bolts ($60) but are (about) the same length as the standard bolts that come with the Talon CAT plate. Also, before I bought the TRD Skid plate, the spacer that came with the CAT plate wasn't tall enough to sit flush against the cross-frame. I mentioned this to Talon Garage and was sent 2EA spacers (3/8 & 1/2) you see in this photo. I ended up using the 1/2 inch spacer when I installed the TRD Skid plate.

This is the flat spacer that came with the CAT plate...I used 3EA 3/8 inch washers to make up for the space in between the cross-frame.

Another pic...this one with the 3/8 & 1/2 inch spacers.

With TRD Skid plate install & security bolts.

And the 1/2 inch spacer worked great with the TRD Skid plate! The flat spacer was not needed.

I have a TRD Pro and as such, the skid plate comes stock. Sounds like I’ll be needing 2EA (3/8 or 1/2) spacers for flush fit with the talon cat protector. Do these 3/8&1/2 spacer incur a separate cost to purchase or ship free if asked ? Might be a good idea to have the talons ship with spacers as apart of the standard bolt kit.

I have it installed with TRD skid and it came with everything you will need for a good fit. Of course it won't be 100% flush, but the fit is good. The only thing I opted to buy was x2 M8x1.25x50mm bolts to replace the 12mm stock bolts only because I wanted bolts on the back 2 TRD skid mounting points instead of hex head bolts (totally optional and not necessary).
