The airbag was a heavy type of cloth. More then likely the same as in your Mazda, and more then likely made by the same manufacturer.

Interesting, I was assuming it would be more of a "mesh" style like I've seen in other modern vehicles (the mazda was a '98). Gives me even more reason to hope mine never deploy. Airbags are great for high speed impacts, but SUCK at low speed.

I hate I-40... its a dangerous highway regardless night or day.. If the parkway is ever closed from NC to TN its the only way to get to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg.. I hate it.. Glad your not hurt. It took forever for them to "evaluate" my wreck of my truck last august... Good luck and keep pushing. I got to the point i was calling 2 times a day and asking for a status update. Make sure you get an attorney to go over their offers with (or say you have one) so you dont have to work as hard to get the best offer.

I'll wait and see what I hear, but I DO have a pretty good attorney here in town.

Thanks, I will. If nothing else, you might get first shot at some parts if it's totaled...it's at a body shop on Old Callahan road...King Collision, i believe.

Yikes. That's half the problem. Those guys are SLOOOOOOOOW. It's maybe 2 minutes from my house. Let me know. I know the guys down there. I can shake it up a bit or, at minimum, grab your aftermarket bits off it so you can resell.

Well, I was told by the Claims adjuster that this was the body shop they preferred. I wanted them to take her to Toyota Knoxville and their body shop, but...if you go by, and see a red taco, it's more then likely mine.

My neighbor works for Toyota of Knoxville. Could have taken care of you there, as well.

Sorry for all your Knoxville troubles. I swear it's not a level of hell....most of the time.

Just FYI, the local claim adjusters in this area are in bed with Mr. King. He takes the totaled wrecks and rebuilds them or parts them out through his scrap networks. I ran into the same problem when we lost our TDI last year. He was at my door with a flatbed in 15 minutes to pickup the scrap.

Again, if you need any feet on the ground just PM me. We'll get you sorted.

Sure thing. I can get busy during the week and fail to check the boards. If you don't get a quick response just email us at Boldoverland@gmail.com.

    Cool. Thanks.
Odd that the insurance would go with a slow shop UNLESS they are getting a deal/kickback. Heck, they are paying for my rental car on a daily basis, so speed would save them a little money...

Well, just found out it's $9851.59 estimate, AND it will go on a frame machine to be sure everything is set to spec...now it's up to the insurance company to decide...yes or no...

Sounds about right. They'll only make sure it can be aligned to factory specs. MAKE SURE TO TELL THEM they need to allow for room to align against lifted specs. [2-3 degrees of caster]

Well, to be honest, if it's lifted, it was done before I bought it. But, I'll mention it. Thanks.

That should never have set off the airbag. Something wrong there.

Well, I nailed a rolling/bouncing tire and rim at about 60 or so, so it was a hell of a bang on the front end. Not sure where the impact sensors are on the Tacoma, but it must have been enough of an impact to set the bag off...

NOW, I find out that it might be Monday, 16 DAYS after the accident before the insurance company will even decide if they want to pay for the repairs, or total it out.
I have almost NO experience with this type of issue, so I am wondering...does this seem to be a REALLY long time to even make a decision??
The ONLY other time I have ever had to deal with anything like this was when my old Crown Vic got T-boned by an out of control pickup in a rainstorm. I got a settlement check within a week, since the car was obviously trashed.

That sucks. When I totaled my car (***** ran a stop sign and I t-boned her), it was about a week when they said it was totaled and another week til I got the check.
