It's all relative. I can't imagine living in a place that gets apocalyptic wildfires or flooding, but here in our little piece of Florida we wait for the monstrous hurricanes every year and just wait to see which part of the state is going to get smashed.

If you want to avoid crazy weather move to Rhode island. It's the smallest state so would be least likely to get hit by a hurricane or wildfire. It'll just be 16 miles away in a border state.

That melts park benches, destroys your clearcoat/paint, etc. I've lived / been stationed in NJ, TX, MS, AZ, MO and IL, all of them have their ups and downs. Maybe I should jump on the CA bandwagon lol.

The "dumbshits" talking about a new ice age in the 70 was the oft maligned media. The overwhelming majority of peer reviewed studies during that time indicated a warming or neutral trend.

Sorry if this doesn't fit your narrative of those rascally scientists changing their minds all the time.

Poor bastards in those earthquake states. Hey, is that a sinkho...

Nothing freaks me out like wildfires though. I can't imagine looking out of your window and seeing a giant wall of flame that's going to reduce your entire neighborhood to ash. Plus the stories of people being trapped and burned alive.

For the most part, when someone gets killed in a hurricane here it's because they go outside to take a selfie and get clobbered by a flying stop sign or something. Or drive off the road and drown in a ditch. Or run a generator in their living room. Or ...

    Here is an update

    https://www.wcia.com/news/local-news/storm-causes-millions-of-dollars-in-damage/2007765161

No confirmed tornado although someone took pics of a funnel cloud but NWS can't confirm. Interestingly if you read the article in the link, it references a Toyota dealership. We didn't buy our vehicles from them but I do stop in to get oil, filters, general parts from them. I stopped in yesterday after work to pick up a bottle of touch up paint for the Camry if/when I need it. That was 1/2 hour to 45 minutes before the storm hit. It sounds like his dealership is devastated.

For reference, Vermilion County is a relatively large (square miles) and poor county for IL. We only have a population of 77,909. So millions of $$ of damage is significant.

Canned hams??!! That's apocalyptic type destruction. I assume that's how you got your '09 Tacoma. Insurance totaled not only your Ranger but your house, road, town, county, maybe state??

The last one we had was moving at something like a few football fields a minute. When fire burns here, things get real.
