False equivalency, and its actually a common misunderstanding that CA is the big danger when it comes to earthquakes. San Diego is actually extremely secure, even "the big one"... its LA and SF that would be fairly fucked but still NOTHING compared to the new madrid faultline which would DESTROY Missouri, or the Pacific plate off Alaska that would literally cover all of Seattle with a tsunami when it goes off. So its really PNW and Midwest/South that are fucked when it comes to earthquakes.

Wildfires sure but still not a real threat to the actual city of San Diego, if he lives by the beach like me the threat is nill.

The biggest threat to san diego is an attack from a foreign military if war breaks out, given all our bases. Other than that San Diego is about as safe as it gets :)

While true everyone will be effected at some level, its completely false we'll all suffer anywhere near the same. And thats the really fucked up part about climate change, Americans don't care because they can afford not to care, we'll deal with flooding and severe weather, but we have the technology and resources to mitigate it. Desal plants, dams, massive green houses, infrastructure etc... we can easily save ourselves its just a matter of $.

Southeast Asia and Africa on the other hand.... they're FUCKED.

San Diego in particular will just become more like Palm Springs... big change for sure but totally manageable and nothing catastrophic like what coastal Florida will experience or on a global scale mass famine in Africa/Asia.

This. Don't forget all the climate change front men jet-setting across the globe to shill their next big solar or wind farm deal. Any time there is LOTS of money to be made, there is someone willing to lie, cheat, steal, and kill for it. Is climate change real? Sure. It has changed over and over throughout the history of the planet and will continue to do so. Do we have the ability to do anything meaningful about it one way or another? Doubt it. If you really have issues with CO/CO2/Methane/whatever production, go talk to China and India. Let me know how that goes.

YES! YES! YES! The science deniers do have ulterior motives (money from Exxon etc), and Faux news does sensationalize climate change science every time it snow in May. Glad someone else sees this too (see how I turned that around on you?).
Now lets stick to something we can agree on - Tacomas!

Agreed and honestly sad. I was trying to make this argument to my buddy who is thinking about moving to Phoenix, mentioning the research that suggests Phoenix will be uninhabitable by 2050.

This is an excellent point. There is a lot of money to be made in renewable energy, and unscrupulous people to take advantage of that.

The petroleum industry is worth $2,000,000,000,000.
That's 2 trillion with a T dollars. In 2014 fossil fuel companies in the US and Canada alone made $257 billion dollars in PROFIT.

Would you say there is maybe an incentive for some people to want to keep the status quo? I certainly would.

I posted on the other hail thread that after a horrible hailstorm in Omaha in 2017 I looked at moving...interviewed several places in fact. But I took a new job here in town, so I'm stuck.

No place is perfect. I was in Hawaii in March--PERFECT weather. No hail! But, of course a bunch of people lost homes due to volcanic eruptions last year, and typhoons in the past have wiped out parts of cities there. San Diego--also great weather, but I can't afford to live close to the beach, and not too far from the city there are wildfires.

Come to think of it, most places with absolutely great weather I couldn't find a job in my field or couldn't afford to live there. So I guess I'm stuck in the middle of the country...

The tweekers that were born here are a much bigger problem than the guys picking strawberries and mowing lawns lol

I’d trade a tweeker for an immigrant anyday of the week, and twice on Tuesday.

Subduction zones aren't fun. I still can't get over how much water was lifted during the Indian Ocean earthquake

That’s the funniest part of the whole illegal immigrant hate movement.

You don’t hear them complaining about the cost of living in California, only the people that don’t want to work that hard to live here.
The address I send the check to my landscaper is in a nicer part of town than I’m in.
But I don’t want to cut grass or trim hedges so there’s nothing to complain about.

If you still don't know the difference between weather and climate...never mind

I bit your troll, but seriously.. There are likely millions of dumbshits who don't know the difference. How can they possibly evaluate data for objectivity when they're that dumb?

Exactly! More worried about getting killed in traffic on the 5 than from an earthquake or wildfire.

I’ll take it becoming PS over becoming Tulsa or Wisconsin.
Thunderstorms, hailstorms, tropical storms, hurricanes, floods, humidity...
Bugs the size of my rolled tacos, snakes longer than my truck.
You can miss me with all of that!
Go ahead and tax me for everything, and make me pay $5.00 for a gallon of gas no problem at all

Yup. Always burning in SoCal. But the east coast is always getting tore up by hurricanes and snow storms.
