That's funny... I sold my 2007 STI so that I can put my '02 tacoma to use 100% of the time.

I hope you have good luck with your Subaru... I had lots of headaches with mine, and I bought both of mine stock. I personally would be very weary of "freshly built motor with gt30 pushing 400hp". STi's already implode in the most un-modded form... imagine a modded one.

Sorry to be all negative, but seriously, good luck with it.

meh yeah for drag racing, it's not a drag car

i've put alot of miles on subarus and after owning 2 turbocharged ones i decided that N/A is the only way to go as far as reliability, my 2.2L N/A subie has 165k on it right now, uses no oil, drives like it's brand new and still gets 28mpg, i've done nothing to it other than the usual timing belt/water pump, fluids, struts, and a rear wheel bearing (aside from aftermarket suspension stuff)

I agree, my 07 motor blew up due to a faulty ringland @ 5kmi. I replaced it with an 05 long block I found with low miles. I was SOL for getting the motor replaced because I had modded the crap out of the car, didn't even try. I still loved an miss the car, but wouldn't trade my Tacoma for it back.

The 02 WRX went through tw transmissions before i replaced the gears with straight cut PPG 1-4, and also blew the motor @ around 23kmi. This is all due to heavily modding thoug and not being easy on the cars. This is just making my point as to how I doubt ownership will be cheaper then the Tacoma. There is also bad mpg, premium fuel, tickets and you WILL get them with an STI.

Any car won't hold up too well if you drive the shit out of it at all times. If you drive it just to enjoy how well it drives and enjoy the appearance of the car with occasional back road blasts - it will last a long time. Ask the multiple guys on IWSTI.com that have 200K+ miles on their original engine 2004 STi's. There are even more people that have put over 100K on their cars since switching it to Stage 2.

If you go beyond stage 2 - you better just start putting money in the bank for an engine rebuild. At that point it should no longer be expected to be a "reliable" car. You've turned it into an overdone monster that is going to come back and bite you before too long.

You have to be careful with the mods you do and have some respect for the machine. More often than not - it will return the favor.

If the OP spoke extensively with the previous owner and knows who did the work on the new engine, etc. I would support the decision. Makes it able to handle even bigger power right out of the box.

You have a screwed up sense of quality. The interior of all evos MIGHT rival that of an american rental car with the exception of the front seats. Hard plastic and rattles abound.

Haven't thought that once. I could understand the mentality if I'd sunk as much cash into my truck as you have Zach. Mine still had resale value. ;)

I feel like I have not sunk much money into the truck. I am comparing myself to some of the people on this forum.
Yes, yours did still have resale value because you didn't own the vehicle that long and you didn't put many miles on the rig.

Most of the guys on here just have extensive bolts ons that could be taken off and returned to stock.

    Yours on the other hand....

Go to the Long Travel BS thread.
I know several guys who have spent easily over 10k on front and rear suspension.

    Enjoy the Subaru!

I have had my 2002 for 10 years now. 185,000 miles and not a single problem, been stage 2 for 9 years.

Luckily the wife loves the Tacoma so I have the best of both worlds :D

I love subies as well but couldn't trade my tacoma for one. We use the truck way too much to haul stuff. Wife wouldn't let me get a subi or an Evo, she thinks they are ugly :(
