Well I guess I need a cylinder head rebuild?

    I’ve driven it probably about 600 miles since installing the new head. As of right now, it’s running perfectly! I am having a small issue with fuel pressure, which I believe is due to the faulty injector I got off of eBay. It leaks a bit, so sometimes it takes a couple extra seconds to start the truck.

    I’m able to turn the key to accessory a couple times to let the fuel pump push fuel into the rail, and then it starts just fine.

    But other than that issue, the engine is running great. Definitely a little stronger than it was before.

    Awesome! Glad it worked out well for you. Allied Motor Parts does a good job with their reman heads.

    I am pretty sure my 2RZ has leaky injectors, on hot starts it has to crank a little longer before it will stumble and start. No big deal though, not causing any other problems so I will run it as is.

    Turning the key to ACC wont prime the rail, the fuel pump only runs if the engine is turning and its getting a reading from the crank sensor. Toyota is one of the few manufacturers who does it this way. Thats why any Toyota you see will crank over 2-3 times before starting vs bumping the key and it fires right up like your Chevy or Ford. All the domestics will run the pump with the key on ACC for a few seconds to prime but Toyotas do not.

    Oh wow really? Well then it must be me pressing the gas pedal simultaneously thats priming the rail? I'll try and just press the gas pedal while not turning to ACC then before cranking it.

    Ok so with leaky injectors its basically making the combustion chamber too rich to support easy starting. It cranks longer because it needs to clear the extra fuel before it will start. Its just like trying to start your lawn mower with the choke on all the way when the engine is hot. It floods it. Holding the pedal down should in theory help because you are allowing more air to be sucked into the engine, thereby allowing a more even fuel/air ratio and somewhat quicker/easier starting. If there is too much fuel and not enough air it wont combust. Hope that makes sense.
