Well, I just traded in my 2016 Tacoma. Here's why...

Again, there is nothing wrong with the truck not being for you. The issue is it seems midsize trucks, period, probably wouldn't be for you either. That's not a fault of the Tacoma.

Not one bit, this engine explodes at 3.5k RPM. I just don't think the auto guys are being able to get there in every gear. It is not an engine issue.

 

I'm thinking manual as well. But definitely am thinking of waiting a few years.

 

I just sealed the deal on trading in my '16. Swapped it out for a '16 T4R Trail Premium w/KDSS. I paid 35,800 for my truck and they gave me 35,000 trade in and got the T4R for invoice. My truck has 7500 miles. Loved it but the drivetrain issues were painful. Live and learn. It pays to deal at the end of the month!

 

The service mgr at my local dealer said the auto tranny was designed to get to the highest gear possible as FAST as possible for better fuel mileage. The result is it feels doggy unless you really put it to the floor.

 

Very true. Toyota has no problem selling Tacomas.
That is another reason they hold their value because the new ones arent ever marked down.

 

Agree, even though I need the longer bed for hauling bikes, I would be okay sacrificing for the manual, still want to see some other minor issues fixed/addressed first, but next taco will likely be a manual.

 

Yeah I was supposed to be going to look at a 2016 TRD Sport Access Cab 4x4 in Inferno today but I don't know if I can ever trust a first release of a new model year.

Paid 32,000 in October of 2014 for it. And as it sits now they are actually offering me a little more for it in trade for the new one. An even swap with swapping my wheels, and extended warranty.

 

Serious! Jealous, ass hats here wanted to give me $26k for my 2015 DCLB Sport 4wd with a legit lift, etc. I'd still wait your trade in aint going anywhere. On a side not, notice how the NE region limits the colors on 6SPD manuals. All the crazy colors too, only thing I can find with tech and premium package is in inferno or quicksand.

 

If the op tries to trade the f150 in on something else will be very disappointed on the return.American trucks are a plenty so the resale will plummet.Chevy is literally having to give away the Colorado.I like the new Fords but like everyone else is saying its a full size and a long test drive could of showed some of those issues.If I was buying a 30+ vehicle I would check it out as long as possible.

 

Time will tell how those Eco engines hold up. They're an unknown quantity IMO.

 

I feel OPs pain though, FS sometimes is too big but gets great mpg in the new GM and Ford (better than the new Tacoma even, I had one for those that want to argue that) but there's the lower resale value and not a Toyota, the Tundra is just too damn big and terrible mpg, I wish there was a half way between a tundra and Tacoma, like the 2001-2003 F150 SC size, more room but not gigantuan. And the Tacoma although winning in many aspects is not on initial price and mpg, better but not better than the big 3 FS. Its a struggle and sometimes a tough call as to which items you forgo and which truck will fit your needs best. Don't understand why everyone is bashing OP all of a sudden.

 

*quality and I agree, Turbo's go usually around 100k point, there's a ton of well equipped eco's with 80k miles for cheap used for that reason.

 

Folks complain a lot about the lack of power in the Tacoma Let me share a story with you. I traded my ford lighting for my 06 sport Tacoma. Now that ford lighting had some kick aZZ power to it. Now imaging going from a ford lighting to a v6 Tacoma. My truck needs changed I needed 4x4 and better fuel economy. My whole point here is when buying a vehicle buy something that fits your lifestyle and fit your expectations. I knew going to the Tacoma I would not have that power and acceleration I had with the ford lighting. What I would gain is better fuel economy, four wheel drive, and hauling capability

Hell we got one inch of snow on the ground and I could not even make it out of my driveway with that lighting. On the other hand, you could barely touch the accelerator and that MOFO would fly.

It all comes down to two things lifestyle and realistic expectations. The Tacoma was never meant to have the same power characteristics say as a Ford 250, Tundra, or Dodge Ram.

Here again is why test driving a vehicle not just one time for 15 minutes is so important. I plan on buying a gen3 and I have driven two thus far OR and Limited. During those test drives I did notice a buzzing sound in the OR but the limited did not have a buzzing sound. I plan on test driving other tacomas in the future prior to my purchase.

 

I don't understand how guys over 6' weighing 220+ pounds think that a midsize truck will have room like a full size. Then they say a full size has sooooo much more room than a Tacoma or Colorado. No friggin crap it has more room. It's effin bigger.
