Just get an exhaust shop weld in a pipe.

It's a mother fucker and I would love to kick a guy in the ribs while hes in the act.

 

I've been trying to write a polite response, but cannot come up with anything that won't get me kicked off the internet. I'll settle for "that sucks" but I'd be seething were I you.

Just curious, where was the truck parked when it happened?

 

What does the going black market pay for 1 cat ?

Are they stealing these things for the replacement cost or the palladium and rhodium ?

$150-200 per cat at a junkyard.

 

Secondary cats are usually 40$-50$ here, its the primary cats that get 80$+. But we had a big crack down in my city of clearly new cats being sold to scrappers.

I give mine to the guys in the shop that really need cash or that go out of their way to collect them.

 

Any wrecking yard selling stolen parts usually gets caught .Seen it happen many times . Sounds like local law enforcement need to buckle up .
Should be trace numbering on the cats though to prevent re-sale unless stamped by an authorized legit shop . Everything else is stamped these days .

 

I tell you, the thieves aren’t too smart.
I don’t think they realize what they are actually stealing.
The secondary isn’t the “good” one. Thankfully Toyota buried the Primary up in the engine bay.
And it is hard to get to....... I keep waiting for the day mine is stolen.
I park outside 24/7. I do have cameras after they stole our Honda Pilot out of the driveway.
But honestly, the cameras won’t slow them down if they are determined.

We went thru a time of cats being cut off.
They cracked down on salvage yards buying them. Haven’t heard of it happening here much at all since.
Yea and they had a vid of 2 thief’s cutting like a dozen off new trucks on a dealerships lot.
Trucks were lined up nicely for them.

They now strip copper from seasonal camps vacant homes and construction sites.

 

It’s a big freakin’ problem here. It seems like there are daily reports of them being stolen. There was a story about a chase and crash in LA the other day where two or three people died. A Ram ended up in a pool. I think one of the dead was trapped in the truck.
The whole thing is ridiculous.
Sorry about your truck man. I would be pretty pissed about it.

 

LAPD just busted 19 people caught with $750,000.00 in stolen cats !

Better than Dec. 24, 2019 when they broke into my Malibu and tore the dash out trying to hotwire it, frying the computer.

I need to find a new place of employment.

I'll call my mechanic tomorrow and see if I can get away with just a pipe or if DEQ will fail me for not replacing it.

 

Something like...."if I caught that fornicating rectal orifice under my truck, he'd get a boot (steel toe) in the berries.

 

Cat theft has become a huge problem here in Dallas. They need to crack down on the salvage yards. Trucks, SUV's, anything high enough to get under without too much trouble. Sawzaw for about one minute and gone. Pissses me off big time.

 

About the only path, after the theft, is to file a police report and then a claim to insurance.

If the insurance carriers sustain enough loss related to CAT theft, they will pressure for stronger laws and enforcement.

Meanwhile......... all we can do is make our possessions a harder target than the other guy's stuff.

Fairly common in DFW with stolen cats. 3 employees at my hospital got theirs stolen in broad daylight. Security camera see the thief drive up and off in about 3 mins. A cordless sawzall with a metal blade can make quick work on removing the cats.
