Other than having a full set of skids, has anyone else done a cage or some other method of passive protection under their truck?

Sucks man I hate theifs. Plus idk where people are getting hundreds for cats. The cat off my gtr and f250 only got me $10 and the scrap yard take a pic of the truck and my dl. If needed I have my old y pipe from my taco and can cut it off if you'd like. Best advice I can offer is to etch your vin and make and model and color on the cat.

Pretty common problem; used to see 1-2 cars a week come rumbling into the dealer. They don't always use a noisy Sawzall. Around here they are using plumbing pipe cutters - totally silent

I had my entire work truck fleet get hit in one night. When I got them repaired I sent each vehicle home with an employee. Less of a chance for more issues, or at least issues of that magnitude.

    It’s all so tiresome.

I get around 2-3 second gen Prius' in our shop per week with stolen cats. Was told they go for around $250 a pop for the metals inside.
1 customer who brought her vehicle in showed me a video that her next door neighbor took, dude was in/out in 7 minutes. Interesting for me to watch but needless to say the vehicle owner was pissed because the neighbor didn't intervene and ended up having to pay $500 for her deductible.

That sucks....time for something that identifies as a cat for the replacement.

Bastards got my passenger 2ndary Cat several years back while i was parked at work. They like Tacos cause they can get under 'em easy and it's right there. The cuts were super clean on mine, musta used a battery powered circ saw with abrasive disc or something. Zing-Zing and away they go:sawzall:.
$1500 claim for something they get like $100 for. F*&$%ing crackheads!

That would be the way it would start off, but he wouldn’t get off that easy! People who do this deserve so much more!!! I’d be obliged to give them the punishment they earn for themselves!
Sorry that happened to you man. Such a bitch!

So some POS comes walking into the scrap yard, or driving a car with a cat still in place, and they, the scrap yard, just take it, no nothing,.... there's the problem.

Pretty sure the DEQ will ding you as you/we are in the Portland metro area. Noise and pollution are both violations.

Only time I've been to DEQ all they did was plug into the OBD2 port and scan. Being post O2 sensor how could they tell. Unless they have cameras in the floor...

And I'd love to put "Someone beat you to it" on the pipe

I thought they might hear the difference as the engine idled. Could well be that I'm wrong.

I've heard they use a pipe cutter (silent).

I bought a sheet of scrap expanded aluminum and bolted it to the chassis so it covers both cats. I was originally planning on doing a steel sheet but the weight and inability to bend it without tools made me choose the aluminum. If anyone crawls under there I doubt they'd care if it's aluminum or steel, they'll move on to something with less hassle.

    It's not just junk yards.

    https://pgmoftexas.com/

This place always has a line of tweakers and sketchy looking cars wrapped around the building. These assholes will accept cats from anyone; they're profiting off these thefts.
