so funny how that damn tire held on for dear life and preserved any fender damage believe it or not! It rested perfectly and didn’t cause and rips or tears where you would think it would have. Even the mud flap is in prime condition

I think the pavement got the most damage out of everything! They are gonna need to come add some filler to it at some point.

For real! Even in my panic my instincts and experienced driving history kicked in (BMW driving school definitely came in handy)

so funny, I was on the way to bowling for practice since we somehow got the crazy idea being in a bowling league would be "fun", but turns out its a little more competitive than we realized, so we wanted to step up our game and now I wont ever not associate bowling with ball joints

    Don’t do that.
Replace all bushings and ball joints with uniballs or heim joints … ALL. Even tie rod ends got to go. Run custom 7/8 heim rod ends and adapter clevis at the power steering rack . No cheap hill billy Bs. It’s a truck , meant to beat , treat it like one

I like what Steve said, but that might be a little expensive. Looks very heavy duty, though. A good mechanic should be able to tell you what you really need. Definitely replace the passenger side, as well. Looking forward to seeing your pics once it's on a lift. That being said, here's another video courtesy of Theo :)

Are there symptoms in the steering that would be noticeable before failure? When I go over bumps in the road in my 95, the steering seems to go idk ... looser than usual?

Oh my gosh Rob that brought tears of laughter to my eyes!! Toonsie (toonces) is a new fav of mine now.
    Thank you much for sharing.

I will be making note of all the feedback, my pops is well rounded in mechanics and we have a great source of contacts outside of him as well. I won’t be taking this on alone and I’m excited to share the repair journey with y’all :)

I think everyone has driven home the "check the ball joints" point- but more to addressing how to fix what you have. Once you get it to a point where you can start repairing things- you're going to have to look out for the knock on items. Almost certainly the rie tod is toast, but you'll need to check the rack too. Also looks like the upper bail joint lost it's effort to hold on. Brake line, and ABS sensor (if equipped) are also likely compromised.

Doing a full front end refresh is a great idea, but I'd suggest getting it mechanically sound and driving square before you take on the arm bushings, etc...

Looking back I noticed a very slight difference in the steering (it was so minor i thought maybe I was paranoid, because for me any sound or feeling off in my truck I take note when I drive and always ask about it to make sure all is well) I’m now a lot more educated after the event but it happened the way it was supposed to) and we already had plans to get it on the lift for an inspection before all of this and I planned on putting some money into it from it being at almost 180k. I hadn’t been driving it much anyway since I recently had a small coolant leak and some squeaky sounds on cold mornings but nothing to indicate that would happen. Just so happened to all come to a crashing halt this weekend (no pun intended) when I went just a few miles from my home.

thanks Andy! That helps a lot. I definitely plan on it.
My mom on the other hand has already forbade me from driving it again since the incident  She wants me to sell it after repairs and get myself something newer.

That's good. Your dad should be able find the original point of failure. Fix that coolant leak. Squeaky sounds usually indicates a loose or old belt. I think your mom is right! My 2012 has treated me well, if you buy used. Never had any problems with it. :)

Same. Mine had 200k and it was still tight as ever when I changed it so I kept it as a backup set for the trail.
