    I'm with you on this.

I've done 3 oil changes myself so far, and used a different 0W-20 each time depending on what was on sale. No noticable difference in any aspect.

This day in age, I would think if you change at required interval they all will work fine with no adverse effects. But I dropped out of oil college so what do I know?

The US is one of the few countries to allow oil co to brand their oil as full syn when it really is a blend.

Me too. He's not a shill.
There's plenty of vehicle models/designs (some products too) that he doesn't like, and he comes straight out and says so.
And he explains why, every time.

Took me a while to like Scotty, admittedly, his style is different. But I have learned some good things from him along the way. He has a ton of videos.
That said, as far as oil goes, I miss the old days of whale oil in transmissions. Those were the days...

Agreed. I've been running it all my equipment since 06 and selling it for a few years now. I can't touch that price but I only change my oil once a year. I'd be willing to to bet over the course of the year, most people would save money by making the switch.

    Fair nuff.

But using that same logic, can we all agree that if all we need to pull is a 1/2 ton, any half ton truck will do?
Or if all we need to pull is a 500# load, we can just buy a Frontier, TOYOTA, F-150 or GMC, Ridgeline??

Just pick the cheapest one and case closed?? :crapstorm:

No. The difference between two vehicles is far greater than the difference between two motor oils of equal weight and equal approval.

You would not necessarily be able to tell the difference at all between oils poured out of their bottles, whereas a Nissan and a Chevy are easily distinguishable to our many human senses, after being driven off the lot.

The problem many have with Amsoil is that its a pyramid scheme...and they don't actually meet very many specs. They claim too...but they don't pay to play and thus don't have the OEM approvals.

With that said...its fine oil. But no better than whats available on the walmart shelf at half the price.

Taking this one step further, we know the difference between trucks based on personal experience and reviews. I’ve owned a Nissan and know they are shit trucks. I’ve owned a Toyota and it’s been a great vehicle. My question is whether anyone has come to realize Valvoline Fully Synthetic 0W20 is great, whereas the Mobil 1 0W20 is shit, through actual experience, rather than hearsay.

You are 100% correct. Motor oil is heavily regulated at the federal level. If an oil meets the spec...it meets the spec period. This Amazon oil meets GM Dexos 1 gen 2...thats a pretty good spec...one of the most stringiest domestic specs for sure.

Im a Mobil 1 user...but only because they have the most readily available oil that meets the specs im after...MB 229.5.

Assuming the oils meet the same spec...they would either both be shit...or both be awesome. Buy what you like and what makes you feel happy inside. For many its Supertech 0w20...which by the way is just as good as Mobil or Valvoline...or anything else that meets the same spec which IIRC is SN Plus/GF 5...and a host of OEM specs like the dexos spec which is more stringent than anything Toyota requires

Exactly! You can tell the difference in the ride and other aesthetics because…Well, we’re riding in the truck.

But we don’t ride the oil, the engine rides the oil not us.

But all the trucks meet our minimum 500 lb cargo requirement. So can we therefore agree that based on what we see, we get what we pay for??

And all these vehicles are heavily regulated to meet specs, including our our minimum specs or at least that's what we assume

    If only engines could talk:

I was using Mobil 1 and have been an avid user of it for 18 years. Then about 2 years ago I switched to Quaker State full synthetic as it was cheaper and met all the same
Specs and meets the Chrysler spec for the wife’s van....which I think is BS spec but Jon the less.

Anyway I actually hear the motor run quieter with the Quaker State than I did the Mobil. Thought it was just me but I have. Durango RT with the hemi and I’ll be damn that motor is quieter as well. Especially on start up as I noticed the Mobil one was noiser as ignorance the engine was starved the first second.

My father has been using super tech synthetic in his Wrangler, Mazda van , and 2016 F 150 with the 5.0 and he is happy as well. I’m sure the Amazon oil is fine.
