Just looking for some camping info from some locals. I'll be traveling from the great white north to Phoenix in early April. After my first travel day, I should be ending up somewhere between Wells and Ely, NV. Just curious what the camping conditions are like in this area in early April. I'll be in my RTT and just need somewhere quiet to sleep for a few hours before continuing onto Phoenix the next day. My first thought was to stay at either Elk Flat or Lake View Campground at Cave Lake State Park. Are there any issues getting into these areas in April? If anyone has any other suggestions that area closer to the highway/easier access that would be great. Thanks!

In Wells there is Angel Lake. It's a paved road to a mountain lake that has campsites. Depending on when in April there may be snow but the road is usually clear. If you want to go cheap there are a bunch of truck stops in Wells where you could set up shop in a parking lot for the night.... it's probably safe.

East of Ely an hour or so is Great Basin National Park. If you're taking 93 for most of your trip it would only be a ~20min detour. They have camp sites at the lower elevations which would likely be open in April.

Excellent, thanks. NPS service advertised Lower Lehman Creek as a year-round site, so that's what I'll try for. I think Bellas might be more than the $15 fee at Lower Lehman...

If you go there and have time the cave tour is really cool. I think it's like $10 a person though.
