Welp. Some not so good news. Bad roof damage... (Not as bad as originally thought)

    Hey folks,

I was living up in Truckee for the past few years and recently moved to San Francisco for a reason and my truck was untouched for months left up here. Welp, we had a snow storm and then rain and more snow etc... I just finally got back up to Truckee and my truck was completely buried. After unburying the roof I saw that the roof was completely caved in. I run a Prinsu rack and I think icicles formed and then the extra weight just pushed down on the roof. Not good. I'm going to finish unburying it tomorrow as I just ran out of energy today. The plan is to get it completely loose and start it up. Hopefully everything else is okay but I saw signs of moisture inside. Fingers crossed it's minimal.

Reason for the post is how difficult is it to replace the roof on these things? I didn't see any creases which is good so it might just pop out and with a little bit of bondo love and paint will be good as new but if not I just want to know. I've started a claim with insurance to say "hey this might be bad" but am waiting on seeing the full extent of it tomorrow.

Has anyone here gone through something similar? I'd rather fix it myself than have insurance total it. Can you even get a replacement roof outside of salvage yards? All places I saw showed out of stock. F***. I could've prevented this.

The roof is a single piece with the cab. To replace it, you'd either need to swap out the whole cab, or do some sort of chop and weld a new one on. Hopefully you can push it out.

Here's the before. I didn't take any after pics because it'll be hard to tell in it's current state. Tomorrow I will.

I'm thinking chop and weld. I know they USED to sell just the cap but not sure anymore. I'll keep searching but I'm not in a mental state to do so right now.

depending on how bad it is, you could maybe get by with just popping it out from the inside, as much as possible anyway

Yeah. I might just be overreacting and maybe it's not that bad. I just wanna be prepared for the worst.

I'm realizing more and more that this may not be as bad as I thought. The damage just in an unusual place but shouldn't be treated any differently than regular body work. All the windows are intact and my smart brain is starting to kick in. I might be overreacting. I'll definitely have a better idea tomorrow.

I'd take Truckee over SF any day of the week even with that snowfall. Pretty country up there. Good Luck!

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
In the end it comes down to what you can live with.

If the doors still function me I would push out as best I could and call it good.

That no Glass broke is a good sign!

Having replaced Cab roofs before The fact the windshield and back window need removed.

My luck was never good being super careful every windshield shattered.

    Best of luck!

Won't get to digging it out today unfortunately. Ended up de'icing the driveway all day because my uncle's truck slid and could've been really bad. I'm jello right now.
