Welp. Some not so good news. Bad roof damage... (Not as bad as originally thought)

Heeeey! That's what I did it worked really well! The roof was noticeably caved in from the inside but a couple pushes here and there and it definitely popped. I'm optimistic. Hood is totally fine. Working on starting it now.

That sucks, but I wish you'd send some of that snow up to Oregon. I'd be willing to clean snow off a couple times a night.

Got the truck started. Interior seems completely fine with just a little bit of condenstation. Going to let the truck run for an hour or so with the heater on full blast.

Yeah, this appears to be just a huge overreaction. What I believe happened is that icicles formed in between the roof rack the actual roof and the weight of it just slowly pressed down on the roof. I'll still probably go through with the claim and get the roof properly fixed.

Sweet 80 series! I've been looking for one. My neighbor has a 1996 with a blown motor just sitting there. I've been trying to convince her to sell it to me. Not triple locked, but only 120k original miles!

My daily is an 89 FJ62. Just took this picture for this post.

Suggest you get a quote before filing a claim. You’ll be surprised how much that will cost to repair and it may be over the limit where your insurance decides to total it.

I had a tree branch land on roof and trunk of my Honda, no broken glass, no welding of new panel, just putty n paint and it still was a $3k repair.

Sorry to hear. I live in the area as well and cars, trucks and vans that were left have not been doing well.9469C888-632B-4DA3-BAC6-5A1ECE92A1AA.jpg

Whoa! That's a lot and good point! Claim is already filed but they won't even be able to get to the truck until the warmer months. This sucker is stuck until April probably. I'll get an independent quote for the repair once I'm able to drive it outta there.

Pics of the roof before I popped it out. Doesn't look as bad in the pics as it actually was.

    That roof is destroyed, crazy.
Buy yourself some vinyl and glue it to the roof. First Tacoma with a Landau roof.(if anyone remembers those)

This is her in her full glory prior to this incident. Such a wonderful truck. Same spot it's in right now. I've owned it since 2005 and it has been wonderful.

This thread has really made me think about what certain areas of the country have to endure. The south has to deal with extreme heat and clear coat failure, the midwest and north has to deal with salted roads and frame rust, the far north has to deal with buried cars due to the extensive snow fall. Florida has to deal with everyone being crazy. Pick your poison

    Vinyl doesn't help with snow.

Garage can help protect the truck from snow.

If no garage, then ask around to let you put it in their garage if they have extra room for you.

Otherwise rent a space at rental storage place.

That way you can go out of town with peace of mind for a week or so then you can come home to a damage-free truck.
