I went from a T4R to my Tacoma. Nice to be back in a truck.

We tinted a 2019 4 Runner Pro Tuesday. to say the least I spent more time in it than I should have. I had already been contemplating trading my Taco for one. do I need a truck? no, not at all. the only thing I haul is a trash bag or two to the dumpster at work. I have never needed a truck. I have a truck because I want a truck. my wife tells me to just go trade it, but then I clean up my Taco and I just can't bring myself to do it. in a perfect world, I would own both. even though the Taco would spend more time in the garage than on the road. but I like knowing I have it. @mesojdm after looking at your trucks, it makes it really hard owning one... The trucks look incredible!

I bought my '03 in November 2005 with 78K miles. I traded it in in March of 2017 with 257K.

The only time it didn't start was when the original battery died around 150-200K, i can't recall exactly.

The only time I got stranded was when I neglected a hub bearing until it grenaded.

I wish they still put the 4.7 in them, but the 1gr is sufficient.

    Do you have the V8?

My BIL has a 4R. It's a base model. I like my Tacoma OR better, especially because I love a good MT. The ride on the OR is floaty and fun, and I have to admit I'm enjoying it right now. Especially since the roads are like a moonscape right now. Might want something more refined down the road.

While waiting for my OR to get detailed, I sat in a 4R Limited. That thing was huge and plush. The price was close to $60K, too.

To me it seems there are so many versions out there that range from cheapo, outdated styling and tech to awesome trail runners to refined mega-SUV's. The price seems higher than similarly appointed Tacos.

Anyway, can't diss anyone for liking them. If I wanted an SUV personally I would look at other alternatives, as there's a lot of competition in that class. The Honda Passport in particular looks very promising (yeah I know not a true off-roader, yada yada...)

In the midsize truck category, there's only one to rule them all though.

Been seriously thinking about doing the same thing. The 4 Runner still has the 5 speed trans and the 4 liter engine which I liked better than my 2017 Taco. Just my personal opinion.

The 4runner definitely isn't for everyone. If I just wanted a comfortable family SUV I would be driving a highlander or maybe an RX. The car based SUV's are more efficient and comfortable.

But, it's nice knowing that I can go pretty much anywhere I want. And having a back seat that grown-ups can sit in.

Nothing wrong with driving a 4Runner.

@mesojdm Well Said! I have had both and currently own a newer FJ, a 4Runner, and a Tacoma. Each has its own place and purpose.:)

Unless they make a manual transmission some day it won't make the short-list. Well, maybe for the wife's rig.

The V8 is definitely where it’s at. I have an 04 V8 and love to drive it. I wish the 2nd gen Taco had the V8.
