You're not getting the point. We aren't comparing offroad prowess/ability body on frame etc. For exact reasons people say the 4runner is better and better built, you can say the Highlander does THAT better. Refinement, build quality, comfort yada yada. They are both in the SUV category. I'm saying if these reasons are the only reason you got a 4runner over a Tacoma and come here to say that, that is dumb. What you can argue, is the 4runner has a great mix of both worlds, 4x4, comfort etc. Let's quit pretending like the 4runner is Bently like quality over the Taco.

How many times have you posted this same quote? I dont need a bed everyday nor do I need 4x4. But i used the bed quite a bit, moved a dresser, some plants and trees. I go to card game and my smelly sweatshirt gets thrown in the bed when i leave. The other day i bought some dog food and was on the phone when in the parking lot, just threw the bag of food in the bed, it was great made me smile to have a pickup truck.

    Yeah i know....cool story

Except form factor and efficiency, which both suck depending on intended usage.

The 6th Gen 4Runner has been announced. It is coming permanently coupled to a trailer, with a non-optional full-length roof rack, and double gas tanks. It’s the result of Toyota’s market study of the 4Runners short comings compared to a 4-door pickup.

:rofl:just wait for the ultimate butthurt if the 6th gen 4runner gets the same 3.5 and tranny as the Taco. Won't matter they'll defend all day about how much better the build quality is because it's made in Japan. Then the horrible news will strike that it will be made it Mexico.

The Runner is a great truck until you want to pack a Jerry can or a wet tarp. I watch people with all this crap on the roof of their 4 runner, or towing some dumb trailer they paid $10K for and say “no thanks”. The Tacoma and 4Runner suck in equal measures. It’s just obvious when you see the struggles in both camps.

I pack dirty stuff, need a fuel efficient vehicle for range, do not want to tow a trailer on narrow mountain roads where I might have to turn around, want 4 seats and a short wheelbase, and DO NOT EVER want to critically destabilize my vehicle with 1000lbs of gear on my roof. Also, in my observation, the 4-link rear suspension on a Runner is not as safe or stable when hitting pot holes on logging roads at speed. They seem to wallow all over the place when lifted at all.

For me the Runner is a pass, though if I lived a different lifestyle, the Runner or the Ridgeline would be great.

They are going to put the 4.7 V8 back in it for the mandatory towing, and to keep fuel efficiency low, which is a “Runner thing”.

I can't recall what driving a 4runner was like but I do like the extra leg room in the back. It makes it easier for activities

The 3.5 would be an improvement so you could drive by a gas station without stopping. Anyways......I should probably stop triggering the Runner Crowd. They need all the props they can get.

I'll stop as well. I still do love the 4runner. But then again....

The 4Runner is a solution to a different set of problems than the Tacoma, and they both have their plusses and minuses. My transportation problems/needs are mostly solved by the Tacoma. The Runner doesn’t solve the same problems, and would create new ones for me.

    The Absolute Truth (for real):

Guys who are happier in the 4Runner after selling their Taco fall into only two camps:

1: Guys who don’t need a pickup truck and really enjoy their awesome 4Runner. It is a better SUV / 4WD sedan than the Tacoma.

2: Guys who struggle to make their 4Runner do the things you can do easily in a Tacoma because they made the wrong choice, hated something specific about the Taco, or ditched their Tacoma without really thinking it through. These are the folks pulling bloated trailers, tipping their rigs over on the trail, huffing gas from a leaky Jerry can in the back seat, and keeping the roof rack folks in business.

The T4R is fairly expensive too compared to other vehicles in the segment for what you get in terms of refinement. Its spartan. But like most things Toyota, you are paying for the reliability.

You just don’t get a lot with what you pay for a Tacoma. I recently switched and now have twice the truck for about the cost of a mildly built Tacoma and my family actually fits in it
