Ethanol gas? No. The PCV system deposits a little gunk on the back of the throttle plate and on the intake valves. Top tier gas and some occasional Royal Purple will take care of the ports. You can clean the throttle body yourself with some Seafoam and a nylon brush.

$125 is typical stupid dealer pricing. It would be a .5 job at any reputable independent shop.

If you had only direct injection especially combined with a turbo then you would need walnut blasting. Fortunately you didn’t buy a BMW so you aren’t going to have to deal with that nonsense.

I strongly agree with Vbpiper. Techron works better than you think. This stealer is acting like a backyard mechanic. Typical.
I had my prerunner for 90k miles and ran as smooth as silk, and never had to waste my money on scams Like this.
Does it hesitate or act like its losing power? You would know more than anyone else.
Pour a bottle of Techron before you refuel and fill up with gas and run the hell out of it.
Techron is safe every three to four tanks of gas.

Eco boost engines are DITs, foreign turbos (German and Japanese) are DITs, etc. Not limited to German imports (and even overseas, they use multi port injection to mitigate the carbon buildup in some cars like the VW GTI/Golf R.. we just get the DI only version).

Its for fuel efficiency and emissions, but it’ll wreak havoc.

Your truck is good. Ignore the dealer scam. They’ll try and sell you an extended warranty for top dollar next week.

I believe the new EB, at least the 2.7 went port/DI already.

Subaru engines in general are bad for buildup. I'm tearing down a Subaru engine for fun, and the amount of burnt oil/carbon/gasoline buildup is insane. I am a HUGE Subaru guy, but they never quite seemed to solve the oil burning and buildup issues.

They knock on the OE tune and supposedly have an acceptable level of oil consumption until they will authorize warranty work (engine replacement). It’s miserable engine design on top of a great AWD system.

Girlfriend has a 2.5i Outback. I’m waiting for it to explode

If they're using BG products, they recommend TB/induction cleaning every 15k.

The throttle body service at my dealer (GM brand) is $109.95, which is like $10 for cleaner and then the rest is labor. We charge 0.6, but it depends on what their labor rate is on what it's going to come out to. Now, our induction cleaning at $179.95 is high but people still bite, and I do think it is good for our customer's vehicles because the cars are POS's and we do have injector problems if not cleaned regularly.

Our labor rate is also high though at $153.90 now. (used to be $148.90 just the other day)

Yamaha Ring-Free. Either sprayed directly through the throttle body or in the gas tank, or better yet, both. I've got an Onan genset on my motorhome that only runs at 1800 rpm rather than 3600 like all the others. Quiet as shit as a result, but very prone to early and HEAVY carbon build up due to it not running at the higher rpm's. Mechanical carbon removal by removing the heads $$$ is almost mandatory on these at 1500 hours. Been using Ring-Free every 100 hours through the throttle body with a little SeaFoam in the oil the last hour before oil change. Now has over 4000 hours on it without having to do the de-carbon job.

How well will it remove carbon? Do a baseline visual with a scope and then do an extended but controlled heavy spray through the carb, lugging the engine. End with a heavy and constant spray that chokes the engine to a complete stop, then let it soak overnight. In the morning start the engine in a WELL ventilated area and get upwind! After it stops smoking out the neighborhood do another scope inspection. You will be a believer.

Yamaha Ring-Free. Everything else is competing for second place. An oil catch can/separator will also contribute greatly as well.
