I went to a dealer today and test drove a Tacoma. I'm looking for double cab, short bed, automatic, 2WD. I test drove a TDR model it was a pretty decent truck. I was not too pleased with the sales staff. The salesman knew very little about the models, the differances between differant options. The salesman and salesmanager "Mr. Big" what I like to call these guys told me the 2WD was front wheel drive. Mr. Big did all the talking while the saleman took me on test drive and tried to answer questions. He was pretty clueless. The tried to talk me into leather upholstery, navigation DVD package and back up sensors for and additional $7400. The first offer for my 2000 BMW 540i trade in was $4500. Financing was 2.9% 3 year, or higher interest for 4 or 5 year. Then they offered me $8K for my BMW. They finally found me a model from inventory double cab, 2wd, sr5 package with price of 26K. I'm going to continue shopping around. As usual it seems like you have to do your own research, these sales guys will tell whatever they think you want to hear.

    Welcome to TW!

Yes sir, do not believe anything they say. Best sites to use for research are carsdirect.com & Edmunds.com

Cars direct has a free car buying service that will find the truck you want. Also they will set you up with a sales person @ a local dealer. When I was looking for an 09 Tacoma I used them & would have had an OTD price of $4k off sticker.

Also if you have a carmax. They will buy your vehicle even if you don't buy from them.

    Rachunter is right!
No need of an extended warranty with these trucks. That was my purpose for buying Toyota. 109,000 miles not a single problem proves they will outlast an extended warranty.

It sure sounds to me like you need to find a different dealer.

As an investment, I'd buy a truck with the Towing Package. The list is around $650, but the real cost is the difference between what you pay for the package and what it's worth when you sell or trade the Tacoma. You never know for sure how you'll use the truck, the V-6 with auto does an amazing job pulling a trailer and trying to upgrade in pieces just won't work nearly as well and probably cost more in the long run.
