@DrFunker Are you going anywhere after school let's out this year? I've got a little over week between when we get out and when my summer gig starts. We should plan a ride if we can.

Am actually. Heading down to MV for about a week right after. Will be back mid-week, so maybe that weekend after? Like 20-something?
Was thinking about that actually, that weekend after, getting a site up north on the river.

Our last day is the 15th :p

I should qualify that: The kids are gone the 15th, teachers gone the 16th, I'm there for the summer.

I absolutely love it. I can get a ton done. Plus walking in in shorts and sandals every day is pretty nice. Have about double the projects that we usually do this summer.

Some yes, some would have happened anyway. Hoping I get some interns again this summer. I had three last year and they were fantastic. I tried to work with them on a little bit of everything, I think they got a lot of benefit from it. One of them told me he wants to come back this summer even if it's unpaid.

How did you guys decide you wanted to teach? I'm strongly considering it, jut visited a Montessori school last week and had an interview for a nature preschool yesterday.

Well. ...first off come to grips with the fact you will never become rich doing it. Secondly you have to really enjoy the age group you want to work with. I'm pushing 20 years and I still enjoy coming to work everyday.

Agree. With the first part anyway. I love working with the kids I have. I don't like the extraneous bs that come from outside my classroom though.

I've been lucky enough to keep my head out of most of the BS that circles around our profession. I do what I have to to stay certified and current. There are so many factors outside of my control when it comes to budget and top down directives so i do what I need to to comply with them and go back to doing my thing. Where I am in my building I'm so cut off from everyone else it's like I'm on an island most days. If I don't go out and walk around I'd never see anyone, lol.

Thank you for chiming in fellas. Im really wondering how you came to decide to get into it.

I enjoy hanging with young kids and people have consistently told me that I'm good with them my whole life. A few people have urged me to be a teacher and I've always brushed it off until now.

On a side note, I scooped up some Big Elm while I was out there. IPA and Farmhouse Ale. That farmhouse is SOUR!! Taste!!

No problem James. Check into it. May be worth it.
Yeah, BE is my go to "home" brew. :D
My favorite is the Lion's Ale. On tap is best - but only two places to get it on tap. And I know both places.
Hope to meet up with you soon.

I worked for a few summers with a traveling hockey clinic. We'd travel around the country working out of different rinks for a couple of weeks at a time. I really enjoyed teaching/coaching so based on my experiences there I got a job working for an after school program teaching art. From then on I knew that's what I wanted to do.
