Glad I have an access cab so that shouldn't be too hard. Thanks for the advice!

hahaha taping up the doors with flex tape did cross my mind on the drive home. Found out I fit through the window pretty well haha

Just avoid deep water bro. Have fun without slowly destroying your sensitive electronic components by allowing them to corrode under that damp ass carpet

I know you're right. But being in the North East my offroad options are limited. I can either bang up my trucks body on tight rocky VT trails, flood my truck in the Pine Barrens or pay $400 a day to have my hand held on private fire roads in a group setting in the Catskills. I should move lol

The bottom of the doors have drain holes. Those small black plastic inserts can be seen at the very bottom… thus the door cavity begins to flood very quickly. It’s not the main door seal that let water inside.

Pop the interior plastic door panels off and you will find a vapor barrier. That wasn’t necessary meant to seal water pressure, and sometimes has imperfections when they pressed it onto the tacky seal.

Also the speaker near the bottom of the door is basically cardboard.

Huh, that makes a lot of sense. I noticed my doors have two sets of seals from the factory so I was surprised water was getting in. Makes perfect sense that it was getting in from the door drains. If I didn't know any better I'd try taping them up and driving through deep water again. But I can only handle so much stress in my life haha

These trucks are good off-road but nothing is good (maybe unimog) in water and mud.
Point is, you have to learn the trucks limits and it is not a mud bigger.
That shit shortens the life of everything. If you truly were 40" in, then your intake was under water too. Good luck and hopefully you learn, or not.
Finally, all grommets and door seals are not designed for any standing water just splashes and trickles. This is true for every vehicle. If somehow you could find a seal for standing water, you couldn't shut your doors. They would have to be screwed shut.

Well you’re definitely using your truck for offroading unlike most of the owners on here, are you part Aussie ? Haha those guys love crossing deep stuff.

Right equipment = gets stuck o_O

So you’re going to have electrical issues later down the line. There is no avoiding it. As time goes on the water that remains in the wiring will corrode it. Your truck is a ticking timebomb now

Thankfully I am very aware of the airbox location and was careful to avoid dunking it. Going to replace the filter since I'm sure it trapped a little moisture

silly question, does your truck have the power adjustable driver seat? no idea if those motors are sealed or not. if not maybe spray some electric parts cleaner in there if it was submerged. blow it all out with a hand held compressed air machine. strong enough to dry everything out and hopefully take loose dirt with it but not as strong as compressed air coming from your garage compressor (might break stuff). the corded ones are much stronger than the battery powered ones. just a thought.

Can't beat physics! My truck can drive through deep water without immediately damaging the drivetrain... Doesn't mean I can move forward under my own power when the ruts are deep enough to beach my frame.

I was able to self recover by myself with my winch so I was only temporally stuck ;)

Obviously a Taco isn't a mud truck and that's not my intention. My intention was and is to enhance my trucks ability to handle the unpredictable environments I may encounter offroad. I have to say that if I can go through 40" of water with just wet carpets then I am meeting my goal

My first 4x4 was a triple locked LR Discovery 2 with a 5" lift, snorkel and sealed doors. It definitely skewed my perception of water crossings haha

Despite the reputation with these trucks, our modern Tacoma's are not indestructible. Lots of modern electrically sensitive stuff on board. Maybe consider extended road trips away from your neck of the woods and find new places to explore if it's lacking around your home.

Anything that corrodes I'll just replace. I didn't dunk the fuse box or the ECU - just some harnesses that I may refit with DT connectors anyway.

I know you're right. But with enough stupidity and money anything is possible. Check back with me in a year once I've re-run all the electronics to the ceiling

Buy a good dehumidifier. Run it the truck non stop on continuous mode for a few days. Check the drain pan often as it will fill up. How do I know this? Wife accidentally left her sunroof open when we had torrential rains this past fall. Dealer said everything would mildew and corrode and have to be replaced. 250 dollar dehumidifier from Lowe’s the same same day said don’t think so. Ran that damn thing for a week and everything is fine. Had to empty it like every 3 hours for the first two days. Just my two pesos.

Nice work! Definitely going to go this route.

I hope you wife doesn't feel too bad about what happened - I once forgot to put the roof up on my dads Wrangler and woke up to about a foot of water in it the next day
