Wet brakes don't work when driving in high water? Can someone explain this?

Thanks. Today was rough. People died, livestock died and 1000's of homes and buildings flooded.

Im sure after getting the feedback here this issue was simply to much water and not enough braking to dry them out properly.

it felt similar to ABS engaging when I was easing into a lot to park going under 3 mph.

trying to dry them out applying pressure more would have helped but there was just too much low standing water everywhere to keep them dry.

An answer to this would be slotted rotors or drilled as I can see their usefulness in situations like this. Good example is ATVs they have cutouts in the rotors to help wick away dirt and water so you'll get a good bite each time.

So I haven't owned my Taco long enough to know this, but do the front CV boots have some type of drain hole? Or if you have a 2WD Taco, are the front wheel bearings sealed pretty well?

On my last truck, I remember that it was suggested to repack the front wheel bearings if you ever had the wheel entirely submerged in water.

CV shafts are completely sealed. Wheel bearings should be sealed pretty well too but not as well as the Cv boots. I wouldn't worry about it.

Really good point. My friend just drilled the rotors on his RAM. I'm gonna look into this.

Just buy some slotted and drilled rotors, they aren't too expensive, and do help clear out gunk and moisture faster.

My wife's car has a feature that when the windshield wipers are on, the brakes are softly applied automatically to dry them out. Totally freaked me out when I found out about the feature. Doesn't affect driving at all, can't feel it.

Drive through water, ride brakes for awhile, solved.
