Happened again today. Truck was out in the rain for a short time, doors shut tight, seatbelt retracted fully. Rubber seals all seem good. Belt was wet from where it comes out of the door. The part of the belt inside the cab is dry, so obviously water is getting in my access door somehow. Obviously there is no TSB on this.

Hopefully have time this weekend to get into the door to see if I can find anything.

All I can think of is excess sweating, needs a shower, still wet coming out from a shower. You left the window opened and didn't notice.

Having the window open would not cause the retracted belt to get wet in this case, because the water would have to go sideways to get into the access door.

Because I had this issue before, I make sure my windows are rolled up tight, and my doors are shut tight too.

Hey, just joined the forum. Got the same problem. Passenger's seat belt is getting wet inside around where it rolls up. No wet carpet and doors shut tight. Any help out there?

All of these are access cabs right? The seat belt is inside the access door. It is obvious that water is getting inside of the access door. Probably from the access door window seal. If you remove the inside plastic from the door you will see the studs where the glass is bolted into the door. You could either remove and reseal the window yourself or take it to an auto glass company and have it done cheaper than the dealer.

I looked at mine when I came to work and IF the top access door to body seal is leaking it will run in behind the inside plastic door panel. I would check that first.

Okay, I found the leak. I took off the inside panel, hosed the truck down and found a drip directly onto the spool of the seatbelt. The leak was coming from the upper left corner of the door opening. There is body seam there that is factory caulked and it was split. Also a seam at the upper corners of the rear side popout window, which was also cracked. I think the door was the one leaking because the water is directed right toward the seam by the weather stripping. A dab of silicone caulk and problem solved! I don't know how long the silicone will hold up. If anyone knows of anything better to seal the crack let me know. Thanks

I posted a few days ago about caulking the seams around the door to stop the seat belt from getting wet. Last night we got almost 2 inches of rain and the seat belt is DRY! Yeah!

I checked my rubber seal on the passenger side first because I do not have any issues with a wet seatbelt on that side, I noticed that the seal above the seatbelt assembly at the top of the extra door was glued well and wouldn't move, I then checked that seal on the extra cab door on the drivers side where my belt is getting soaked and I found that if I gently pulled up on the rubber it wasn't being held down by the glue any longer like the passenger side. I reglued the rubber with a 3m adhesive made for rubber yesterday, it's pouring today and my seatbelt is dry. If the 3m fails I'll just go and buy a stronger rubber adhesive. Just another note, when I eyed the rubber it looked good, only when I checked the passenger side did I notice the slight difference and how it was not able to be lifted at all. Hope this works for you all, even the Dealer hasn't heard of this problem.

I Have a 2014 four door and just noticed I have the same issue. I'm not sure the seal would be the same or what. I still have warranty. Should I take it to a dealer or is this an easy fix?

Did you do anything to fix them? My 2009 DCSB has never done it before until today, and the driver's seat belt is soaked, and it's definitely inside the spool. As you retract the belt and pull it back out, it's wet.

Having this issue also, anyone fixed it for a double cab? Not sure it would be the same fix as the OP did in his access cab.

Mine too. Just started to notice that the driver seat belt in my '14 DCLB felt sticky sometimes. Thought I or my wife got some kind of food on it. Not the case. Today it was really wet. The farther down I move on the belt, the wetter it gets... so water is pooling in there somewhere, but where does it get in to the truck.

I'll post a follow up since no one here seems to have done it on this thread. I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow to have them fix it. New truck = not my problem to trouble shoot!

Mine was the roof rack, used liquid teflon on the screws and that solved it.

UPDATE - Probably the roof rack from the factory. I took it back to the dealer and the tech said he had seen it on an FJ before. It was too cold to actually test it, but he said there shouldn't be any more problems.

It rained yesterday and my belt was dry today. So, we'll see.

I know this is a little old, but I just noticed my 09 DCSB is doing the same...just damp though (not soaked). I don't have roof racks but was wondering it could be getting in through the black strips where the roof racks would be mounted? What did they actually do to fix it...just seal around the rack mounting bolts?

Have a 2010 Tacoma with same problem. Rained hard last weekend, got in the truck and the seat belt was wet enough to leave a wet strip across my chest. Stretched the seatbelt out over the console to dry and it began to stink. It finally dried out and rained again this past weekend. Got in the truck to drive to work and the seatbelt was soaking wet (not damp) again and really stinky. Had to drive with seat belt stretched across the back of seat wrapped around the console to keep work clothes from getting wet and smelly.

Took the truck to the local dealer during lunch and they ran it through the car wash four times and couldn't find a problem. It was suggested that I bring the truck in the next time the seatbelt gets wet.

I searched the Internet and noticed that this is a common enough problem but with no solution. I called Toyota and filed a case. If anyone has discovered the problem please let use know so that I can fix it. I'll even be more than happy to pay for it.

If this continues, I'll be looking for a new Nissan and somebody else can have my stinking Toyota.

Mine was improper installation of the roof rack, fixed under warranty. Had to wait 60 days cause they replaced the curtain airbag cause it got wet too.

same thing happening to my 2009 access cab... wet seat belt roll and also a wet spot on the drivers side seat near where the seat belt hangs (not touching)

quite frustrating as I live in a rainy region... all I can think of is my brothers old car that rotted out from the inside from a leak

My driver side seat belt SOAKED. No other leak noted. Carpet dry. I will be investigating seals once the rain stops.

    Jan. 24, 2017:
I read on another forum of this problem. The underside of the truck has small black rubber ‘patches’ (looks like inner tube patches). The one directly under the seat beat mechanism was look, exposing the hole underneath. I cleaned the area and ‘patch’; then, reattached using black RTV, making sure that the ‘patch’ surface and edges were covered with RTV. I also applied RTV to the other patches on the driver’s side.

I cannot replicate water pooling in the seal of the side window, in the extended cab. Sometimes, it happens when it rains, and sometimes it does not.

If the seat belt continues to get wet, I will remove the window seal, clean, apply RTV, then reinstall. I have thought about sealing the glass to the seal in the process, since I never open it.
