Anyone have this issue? It was the first time it ever happened to me, but I got in my truck (07 access cab) after a serious day of rain and my seat belt was soaking wet, as if the water was going into the cavity where it is stored. I looked at the seals and what not, everything seemed OK but I wasn't 100% sure what I should be checking. Thanks for any help

Do you have a rack system?

With the access cab, I know on my friends truck we installed a prinsu rack, since there are no factory rack mounting points, we used inserts. They started leaking because we broke the silicone bead taking it off once. Had water coming down the seatbelts on both sides. A quick reseal fixed it for us.

Sincerely wish I could help. Best I can do is tell you it happened on my 1st gen 2003 Taco EC all the time (no rack installed). Never any water inside the cab, just a wet seat belt. Drove me frickin nuts. I though it was a one off. I played with door seals, window seals, the whole shootin match. No joy. Thankfully I have not seen it on my 2nd gen 2014 Taco AC.

Ws your belt left hanging outside the door in the rain?

I can't say 100% that my seat belt wasn't out in the rain, but I really don't think it was. I do not have a roof rack. Its just so odd, the truck is 11 years old and suddenly develops the leak. Maybe it was a one time thing. I'm going to take the door panel off and have a look to see if there is anything I can see.

Hey, I know this is an older thread but I’ve been having this same issue. There’s a lot of us, and it’s all the access cab. I’m taking my truck to the dealer on Thursday for them to check it out

If you have a rack system it's most likely due to that. After I installed a oem one I messed part of the seal up and it did that. Some silicone fixed it though.

I second the source being the roof. An easy thing to do is just peel back your weatherstripping if its still there, and inspect the factory screw holes to see if the factory seal is broken, somehow. If it is, there is your issue. If its not, you could try to get a hose and hose down those areas, just for a bit. If it gets wet inside right after, again theres your source. If not, then only other source would be door seal or window. Water trickles down, so its got to come from a source higher than your seatbelt

No roof rack on my truck and im the original owner of my truck. I’ve never messed with the weatherstripping. My google searches are showing me that this is most likely a factory issue with these trucks....there’s plenty of threads where people are blaming a roof rack or shutting the seatbelt in the door but OPs are saying they aren’t doing that. Looks like it’s mainly access cabs as well.

I had same issue after installing OEM rack. Pulled it off, put a ton of non adhesive silicone around every hole and re tightened.
    All is well now.

I am willing to bet the foam tape covering the oem holes under the weather strip has gone bad over time.
Definitely get some new tape or sealant up there.

Happened to my 2010 first time a few weeks ago after several days of heavy rain. The belt was wet in short sections so I assume the roll of belting on the retractor is getting dripped on or partal submerged.

My truck is 3 years old though... I think it’s a flaw from the factory

you are probably correct. but there is only one way for water to get in where the belt is and that is through the pre drilled holes under the weatherstrip.
If you are not under any kind of warranty warranty i would pop them off and check yourself vs paying labor.
When you have them off get some silicone around the areas where the holes are taped over so it will be leak proof moving forward.

I’m still under warranty. That being said, I was under the impression that access cabs don’t have those predrilled holes. Also, there have been several other methods of water intrusion mentioned in the threads.

Who knows. I’ll know more Friday

They’re saying the weatherstrip on the door itself is bad and they’re replacing under warranty

My 03 access cab just started doing it as well. WTF? How does a bad door seal let water get into that area? Makes no sense. I thought I was the only one with this problem. If anyone figures this out keep us posted.

Having the same issue with my '03 access cab also...intermittent though. All my seals look good too (no cracks or gaps), and no roof rack to accuse. Haven't poked around any further yet, but if I figure it out I'll def share my solution!

Resurrection. My truck just started doing this. '09 AC. Seatbelt, and more clearly, the top of the belt that rolls is soaking wet when pulled out after a rain. If it ever stops raining I can dig into it. But sounds like no clear culprit at this time from previous posts. I'll report back with findings. Also this is not a door not left open or seatbelt closed in door type of issue.
