Anyone have any recommendations of the best way to dry an iPhone 8 Plus?

Contacted Apple in regards to this because it was in my wet pocket for about 5 minutes WHILE standing up so no odd pressure on phone and they stated it may not be covered under warranty. Their website specifically states for the iPhone 8 Plus that it is certified at IP67. So makes me wonder why they aren’t honoring what they’re advertising. I’ll be taking it into a certified Apple repair/retail store later on today to argue my case but worst case comes I’m looking for any ideas. The phone is fully operational, the only thing is the screen is semi blue in spots due to the water leaking in. I don’t want the remaining moisture/water to leak into the boards and fry the phone. It’s been about 16-18 hours now after it was exposed.

    Thanks!

Shut it off and put it in a ziploc bag full of rice. The rice will pull moisture out. Not sure if it will work in your case, but it worked when I dropped my 6s in water.

I've always heard putting it in a bag of rice(uncooked I presume) works.

Ive said this before in another thread, but you dont want your phone to be turned on after being wet. The best case scenarios is if you turned it off or left it off after it got wet and put it in a bag of rice for a couple of days.

If there is any moisture on a curcuit in the phone it will short out. Things that are wet and get dried out have a pretty high percentage of working again. However you may have unknowingly damaged it further by having it turned on.

Apple doesnt advertise the phone as being waterproof. They may say its water resistant.

Years ago I started collecting old desiccant packets for just an eventuality. When a phone gets wet, put it in a container surrounded by desiccant packets for a few 'days' to let them try to wick away any remaining moisture. If you don't have desiccant packets, you can achieve similar results with rice. There is no guarantee that it'll work, especially given that the phone is turned on.

Open the phone up as much as practical.

I don't do i-anything, so I don't know the possibilities. But if its in a case, has a back that pops off for battery access, etc. The more open it is the quicker moisture can escape.

For some folks (like some of my family members) phone insurance is a good thing.

Is there a possibility that the phone may still be ruined after this amount of time? I’ve been using it and charging it since yesterday. I will be taking it to the store right after work so they can open it and at least dry it up. Either way it’ll have to fixed as my phone is leased. Apple say it may not be fixed since the phone got wet due to the seals not holding up (hmm).
I need my phone on for work and what not so it’ll stay on so let’s hope it can survive another 12 hours before it gets help!

If the water caused damage it very likely caused that damage immediately after getting wet. Electricity and water rarely play nice together.

The longer your phone remains with moisture inside, the more harm than good you are doing to it. There should be some kind of deductable for replacement, even under your lease program, if you paid for it at least.

Don't try and power it on! Just throw it in a bag of rice with silica packets if you have them and let it sit for a few days

It’s been powered on since it was in the wet pocket. It started off with a small white line at the bottom of the screen that has then since gone away but now the screen has a splotch if blue across the screen. I assumed since the phone hasn’t done much since then it would be fine. The home button was super sensitive and not working correctly but since then has improved.

Electric current is constantly running through your phone since being powered on. Theres no such thing as hasnt done much.

What I meant by that is since the phone hasn’t done much since it got water in it that it would hold up till I can take it in. I left it in front of a fan all last night as well. Tried opening it up with iPhone 6 tools but the screws on the 8 appear to be different.

Your phone may be toast. Just pay the deductable and have it replaced.

Well it’s still functional, so the “water resistant” aspect may have helped. I figured if it would be toast it would’ve been gone by now as it’s been over 12 hours since it was exposed and functionally, the phone works like it’s supposed to - just a partially blue screen is all.

A "partially blue screen" means that the moisture has already done damage to the screen. If there is still moisture inside the iPhone, you could still potentially see more damage until the water is wicked out or the iPhone is repaired.

That’s what I was trying to get at. That the damage that’s done is done. However, I still see the risk of the remaining moisture possibly getting into the circuit board. I will be taking to get dried out ASAP today after work and probably get a new screen replacement unless they can somehow clean it too.

I replaced the battery in my iPAD. Replacing the screen was a few more screws and a plug. If you are handy its an option. YMMV

I figured I would try, but I don’t wanna risk the option of the screen not fitting properly/doing more damage. Plus, there would be a wait time for the parts and I want to get it looked at ASAP. I’m going to push hard at the store for them to replace it under warranty as they advertise the phone as being IP67 certified, so that would lead to fall advertisement.
