As soon as they say "Wetum Winter road" is open.
    My guess is another month.

    Feb.21st.
    That may be a plan.
I was thinking more on the lines of 1 to 2 weeks after the winter road opens.
that means as soon as I hear its open I book a hotel room at the moose motel
so the departure will depend on the motel room booking.
and after the one night there its fly by the seat of your pants and see where it leads.
    (hopefully not frozen) lol.

I am interested in this again if it becomes possible this yr. I do have doubts that we will be welcomed to the communities if things don’t take a 180 sadly.

Now I am second guessing my ability to come, my POS ZR2 diesel was unwilling to start in the -30 temps this morning, barely turned over. GM put a new battery in a month ago ffs. By this afternoon it turned over better around -25 but still wouldn't start. The truck has 55k on it at this point. Last yr I had underground parking so it was never an issue. I doubt I will find any heated garages up there lol dammit. Maybe my new Mojave will arrive by the time this trip is good to go!

Anybody like remote canoe trips? I was looking last night into river options to get up there then take the train back down.

from my experience back in cold soviet Russia, we never shut off the engines from October till May. 24/7 operations, most cars made it up to 500K kms still even with that kind of duty.

Haha, with the lovely emissions systems on new diesels running it too long would almost certainly cause other issues!

1 in 5 women have the same problem.

Jokes aside, how much anti-gelling fuel treatment did you use?

i never add anything to the fuel.

the truck finally started at midnight, it chugged and sputtered like an old tractor after turning over for about 15 seconds, went for a drive and it seems fine.

not long ago i had the DEF heater replaced, even when at jeep making the trade they said they see that on their diesels regularly.

Diesel can apparently start forming ice crystals and gel below 10F (-12C), so pour anti-gel additives in the tank if you expect to see those temps. Just one of those things we didn't have to think about for gasoline.

    https://www.dieselservices.com/blog/how-to-prevent-diesel-gelling-during-the-winter/175
    https://petroleumservicecompany.com/blog/at-what-temperature-does-diesel-fuel-gel/

This should be enough for 4 tanks: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/...-injector-cleaner-with-anti-gel-0380921p.html

    "Emergency" formula for thawing: https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/motomaster-diesel-winter-emergency-formula-946-ml-0380933p.html

The DEF system adds another layer of complexity, but should be OK if the heater is working.

I do a lot of canoe tripping in remote locations (Wabakimi, Woodland Caribou) but I’ve never paddled to James Bay. Check out myccr.com to see if anyone has posted a trip report on one of the rivers you’re thinking of.

up the Kabinakagami River to the Kenogami River ,then
east on the Albany River to Fort Albany.
On that trip we then flew from there to Moosonee and then the train to Cochrane .
Great trip and the fishing was excellent,,

The time is drawing very close to this trip. I'll start a list and if anyone is interested in going add your name please.
Again just to restate: as soon as the road opens:
1 I book my motel stay at the moose motel
2.I drive up to smooth rock falls on the Friday b4 my hotel reservation
    3. Saturday have breakfast and then travel to Moosonee and back.
    4. Be ready to winter camp somewhere just in case.

Thanks. I was aware this could happen but not prepared and honestly didn't expect it after one cold night.

my last trip up there was with my 2nd gen cummins. just plugged it in at the motel.I had that truck running most of the time when up there. only shut it off for short periods. I think 4 hours was the most it was off for.

Would a trickle charger be enough to keep it alive or is that a totally different thing?
