Just a thread to see what people have recently been breaking or have broken in the past while wheeling.

Mainly posted to see what areas the members recommend to build up.

    Me too, same side.

Backed into a snow bank with a hidden stump (twice).

Not as bad, but broken non the less.

Snapped CV Axle (and/or damaged boot) and bent tie rods are two of the most common; always a good idea to have spares of each (spare axle, spare boot, spare tie rod, and spare tie rod end).

    Haha!

I tried to go through this washout but the departure angle sucks in the Tacoma. Well and the wheelbase is too long for some obstacles.

Pics don’t do justice, but this is the said washout.

    Yeah.
Not broken, but did have a stick or something puncture a steering boot. I've dragged the hitch multiple times, but have since put on a high-clearance bumper. I would agree with the previous posts, that the most likely things to damage are tie rods, CV axles, and the rear bumper.

Don't go up any really steep hills. Few people have blown their motors doing it.

Glad I'm not the only one snagging the rear bumper on their truck.

Aside from body damage, the things that generally break are what are supposed to, e.g. CVs, tie-rods, etc. I think the only thing I specifically "build-up" up were the spindles, they will flex and bend out of spec.

Everything else like shocks and leafs should already be replaced.

Nothing... I ran the Rubicon in OCT and brought along a spare axle and tie rod ends based on opinions here. I am locked front and rear with 5.29s and dont thrash at all. Make it thru with zero parts broken. Straight alignment on the way home. I DID bend up the stock rear spring hangers. They were replaced with BAMF hangers after the trip.

Carry a spare CV just in case, and a tie rod. Learn how to swap them before you need to swap them.
