In the winter I also have a box in the bed with recovery gear, Jumper cables, and a camping stove with hot chocolate. it’s nice to warm up after a hike or snowshoeing.

I don’t go off road and most of that is personal comfort or for helping someone stuck on the road.

I need to add a proper first aid kit and a fire extinguisher.

You might want to take a butter knife to defend against people who actually know you can carry certain guns in Canada under the prescribed conditions and decide to go at you.

    x2 fire extinguishers

x1 $500, self built first aid kit (treats trauma and minor burns, with most OTC medications such as acetamenaphin, ibuprophen, dramamine, and imodium. Nothing makes a person more miserable than the runs out in the wild). Hydrogen peroxide, useful for cleaning cuts, or inducing dogs to vomit. An extra bottle of water. In a pinch, the bottle cap can be punctured by a knife, and the bottle used as a pressurized water source to clean out wounds.

x1 wildnerness survival kit, including at least 3 ways of water purification (steripen, iodine tablets, burkey water bottle filter) and 3 ways of fire starting (zippo lighter, water proof matches, fire starter)

recovery gear, including 40K tow strap and 40K D hooks. Folding shovel.

DOT emergency signs and chem lights, both white and orange, to supplement as traffic control devices if needed

x3 flash lights (one on the med kit, one on the sun visor as the main go-to, one in the passenger side door).

x3 knives (one on the med kit, one on the sun visor as the go-to, and a gerber one that uses disposable razors).

x1 tool bags with most common metric and US tools

x1 hiking bag with 48 hours worth dry food, flash light.

    reusable zip ties. fix-a-flat tools.

dog supplies: squeekers, extra flat collar, extra prong collar, extra name tag, extra leash.

That's not everything, but what I can remember off the top of my head.

    edit:
    TSA-style bag with basic toiletries.

    TP. Automotive wipes.

    Cheap, extra blanket.

Mud boots (used quite a bit for scoping out flooding roads).

In my truck at all times are usually these times:

sunglasses either purple or green ray bans,
    Block heater cable,
Ratchet straps they’re orange and bright,
Some extra t shirts and a pair of pants (dunno why but the other day I put the pants on cause I was cold, had shorts on),
    A plastic garbage bag,
    iPhone cables,
    My weed buster,
A USB c/9 volt attachment for the lighter,
Hmmm and air fresheners usually the 6 pack from Wally mart.

I think that usually sums it up lol

Some good suggestions here -- am definitely taking notes. I always carry a Woodsman's Pal in the truck. Not because I am compensating for anything -- or fearing we are on the verge of apocalypse (even though we could be) but rather because it is so darn useful:

    https://www.woodmanspal.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIpvLm6umy6wIVWsDICh2jNAiMEAAYASAAEgLoyPD_BwE

Being in NY but having tons of family in CA, it is not what I carry out on trips but what I bring back. I buy real Canadian maple syrup (in cans only) by the case. It is the only thing I need to survive !

Get an inexpensive multimeter & learn how to use it. With more & more electronics, it’s youR eyes & ears to what goes on. A code reader at the very least is a must.

I’ve started keeping a small fishing rod and tackle box in my truck all the time. Never know when I want to stop at a lake and catch something.

I’ve carried one of those small rigs in it’s case with a few bits of tackle for decades. Caught more than a few good meals with it. Just make sure you have your license too.
