No reason why you need OEM 0-20 oil. I wouldn't spend the extra money for it. Just go to Walmart and get it there.

It’s made by exon mobile but there are some people that think it’s better than mobile 1. I don’t think so but wack to his own. You can get 12 qts on Amazon for 100 bucks. I’m sure the dealer would charge a bit more.

Wow that’s impressively expensive. Does the average dealer actually use it? Or do they fill with off brand. Kind of curious

Well right, I got Valvoline for the last fill at $30 a jug. But I wanted to see if I stuck to oem…. What damage would be. I haven’t seen any online parts sales listing the oil.

I don’t believe the dealer fills from the Toyota labeled bottles. They pull from those drums that they buy in bulk.

@Bishop84 do you know if the oil Toyota uses for service is the same as the bottles they sell at the parts counter?

It may be made by Mobil, it has a different additive pack than the regular 0w20. TGMO typically has a good dose of molybdenum in it which is a great anti-wear additive, especially the long length of timing chains.

My dealer uses M1 bulk for the trucks. Very few vehicles get the TGMO...

Only when we run out of bulk. They are the same, but packaged different.

Honestly I wouldn't buy 0W20 from Toyota, just buy the cheapest from a part store.

I got some late last month at my local dealer, $8.80/quart.

Although the Toyota oil is manufactured by Mobil it is an exclusive formula just for Toyota, no off the shelf product is identical.

Obviously the question is does it matter?

My logic is the Toyota engineers designed the additive package, the price is fair and the product is easily obtainable so why not.

If someone has some in the LA area I would be happy to foot the bill for a VOA and we can see what the difference is in the additive pack between TGMO and M1.

I bought a few cases a few months ago and a few times throughout 2021 for around $5 a quart, if you bulk up when the parts website is having 20-25% off with free shipping. Buy out of state to save on sales tax.

My local Toyota dealer only puts Pennzoil synthetic in everything they service.

My Toyota dealer said they use Mobil 1 Synthetic.

Oil threads are always shitshows, but this one is pretty straight forward.

    Valvoline is a good choice.

I’m not really into the moly stuff. I think it’s kinda like amsoil and just a way to charge a lot more for very little gain. Whatever your favorite brand is I think keeping it clean is the most important aspect to protecting your engine.

I bought 20 quarts from Culver Toyota after I bought my truck in the middle of 2018 for about six bucks a quart. They were happy to give me good price for buying a bunch. No real arm twisting, just "what can you do for me if I buy 20 quarts or more?" Done. Same when I bought the 2020 LED headlights from them.
