I realized I've been driving around with a bit too much lead in my foot. Average commute speed was around 80mph (shhhh, don't tell nobody) and I was getting around 17.7mpg out of the ole' tractor motor. It's been bad enough that I haven't really been tracking the fuel economy on fuelly anymore 'cause it started to get depressing.

Anyways, I took out some of the weight of my right shoe and dialed things back to the speed limit and I'm already seeing a 3mpg improvement but I'll wait to see what the computer says by the end of this tank. I'm not expecting to get numbers as good as the V6 RWD guys probably get, but given that I commute 200 miles a week, it'll be nice to fill up a little less often.

It makes a difference. That 3mpg back means you get 60 more miles a tank. (I’m running 25mpg on my current 2wd V6 tank.)

I was impressed by the manufacturer reports that the cute little upcoming Maverick truck will have a hybrid power plant that will yield 40mpg and cost somewhere in the low $20,000 range for a base model. I would have gone for that if it were available in 2017…and I think a lot of other people would have too, especially municipalities.

Oh yes, I've been frequenting the thread on the Maverick quite a bit since it was announced. I'm a big proponent for that little truck(let) and am eager to see how it does.

Woah! Thanks to both of you for putting the Maverick (and its TW thread) on my radar. Very intrigued and will now be keeping tabs.

Mathing my fill-up today showed my last 306.2 miles gave me 23.9 mpg, with the TAFE display showing 24.8 and DTE showing 153. In the first segment of only bopping down to the Houston airport and back (~120 miles r/t) the TAFE was over 27.0 on 80 miles straight freeway driving at 70 mph or so average plus 40 miles accessing the airport, not hyper-miling.

i have a 2.7L and i average about 14-15 mpg. but i usually just drive 20 miles to work, idle for 2 hours, then drive 20 miles home. the idling with a/c on full blast really kills my mpgs.

If i'm on the freeway i can get 20 mpg with 87 octane. can get 22-24 with premium.

Just drove from Durango to Denver with a tank average of 17.7 - with the amount of kit/weight I’ve added, I’m good with it. When I was living in Austin I was averaging closer to 12.

My truck is a 2020 TRD Off road DCLB with topper.

    285/70-17 MT A/T boss 4.88 gears....

I live in South Central Ky so mix of hilly and curvy roads. Not flat long open straights.

Typically around 16-17 on good road 55-60 driving. On trips doing 70mph right around 17 with no head winds.

Hmmmm.... 23.5 highway is pretty good.

Anything over say 65mph and my highway mpg is crap.. if I could average that good on highway I'd have really good all around mpg.

Same here! That's why I stick to the right lane and just go 60. Peak fuel economy for any vehicle is usually 45-60. There's also a section of interstate currently limited to 55mph that I chose over the area-highway so I can safely go 55 and that's usually when I get up to 25mpg if the wind isn't fighting me.

Another huge improvement I've had is the lack of stress while driving. I just make sure I'm holding nobody up, and now I rarely get upset at anyone on the highway. I just let people do their thing while I max the economy in the right (and correct) lanes.

OMG finally someone that thinks like I do when driving . I back you on the stress free and not holding anyone up . When I try to keep up with the rest of the douche bags I get pissed off and shitty fuel mileage . Right on wish Everyone drove like we do

Same thing here dude. Its amazing how adjusting my driving habits actually make driving much better. I went from a v6 first gen to this. My gen1 would just get it... this 4cly is kinda laggy on pedal response.. it made me adjust my driving habits, albeit for the better..

When I bought my truck, computer said i was getting 19-24. after doing the math, I realized my truck was lying to me. Did some digging and found that the previous owner had it set to Imperial gallons. Knocked me down to 16.5 average. After figuring out tire pressure and exchanging a bed rack for a bed cover, I'm averaging 20 now.

if your computer says you're getting over 21mpg with anything but P-metric tires near stock size, make sure your unit of measure is on US not Imperial gallons. find this screen under set up--> general --> unit of measure
