mercedes announced SAE this year under lab conditions

the gasoline engine finally obtained 50% effiency

in other words 1/2 of the availbe energy goes out the exhaust pipe

may SAE ( society auto engineers ) have been chasing the optimum for decades

    the quest goes on

that was a lab engine under lab conditions

quite certain NOT a street engine ( far worse than50% ) from 1 of their own

Got this, lugging this heavy bitch around. Tuned with KDMAX.

Which is around 19.5 mpg on a 120 mile trip.

2021, 33s, 4.88 gears. 18-19 highway, 15-16 city. Got 20mpg on a 100 mile round trip last week. Stupid heavy E rated tires don’t help.

dash indicators are seldom accuarate in many scenarios

easily could have been ‘ snapped ‘ flat to rollin terrain

i love it when the dash shows im gettin triple digit mpg

the most accurate gauge of mpg gallons filled - gallons used consistently divided into miles

considering all conditions encountered give a reasonable / real world mpg

MANY of the vehicles being observed on this site have altered gearing / tyres ( which have alterd actual roadgoing gearing )

many have altered ‘ Tunes ‘attempting better performance

little effort to accurately compensate for those contemporary gearing/tyres effecting MPG

    comparing apples to oranges

Meh, the cluster is usually a bit pessimistic in my truck.

That and the larger than stock tires mean I'm actually getting a bit better than indicated.

No need to hand calculate every time :notsure:

Mine always averages 22-26 depending on a variety of factors. Stock except for the K&N drop in filter. Driving like an old fart helps.

Edit: I did tow a 5x8 trailer to the dump a few weeks ago to dispose of a Palo Verde tree and it averaged 19ish.

Just got a “true” round trip reading, 344 miles in total 20.8mpg with 33mi left in the tank, 70-80mph including a ~20mi stretch of stop and go traffic on the way back and some construction zones.
Pretty pleased with possibly getting 370mi out of the tank
