I do not ever trust the vehicle's computer to accurately determine fuel economy. I never even look at it, so I can't tell you what mine would say. I have always calculated MPG by hand. I have used Fuelly for the last few years. see below.... this is with 69K miles on my truck (bought new).

My experience is the computer is +/- 1 MPG vs. doing calculations manually. With that said, even a manual calculation has some margin of error, but not as much as the computer. In order for it to be perfect the gas pump would need to fill your tank to the exact same level each time. So technically there is some variance between fill ups.

https://www.fuelly.com I've used it for my last few cars. It works best if you are the only driver, and the only filler, and can consistently refill at the same point in time on your tank.

    Screen Shot 2021-08-20 at 1.35.53 PM.jpg

We had that Prius for 10 years and 176k miles and I managed to track 80k miles of fillups.

As long as you fill up on a good level surface till the pump automatically clicks off, i've found my manual calculations pretty dam close to the trucks computer display.

Some of you get better with the v6 than I did with my 2wd 4cyl 5MT 2nd gen.
I get a bit over 18 with this truck. I think I lost 1mpg bumping the tire size and rims with poke, but that was expected.

Lol plenty of long hills in the states, Vail summit to Glenwood springs in CO is a 60 mile, 6000 ft hill. But I believe you. Please, though, can you enlighten the rest of us heavy-footers how to get 50MPG ???

edit: used wrong altitude for Vail Summit

Yeah l have found the computer to be pretty damn accurate in my truck too, its always within +/- .1 or .2 of the hand calculated.

Not true. There was no coasting or any trickery. I had just gotten off of the HWY, was at a stop light and noticed the mileage.
    I was baby-ing my gas around 60-63.
Driving home from work is mostly HWY, so I decided to stop racing and this was the result.
I normally average 22/mpg. The very next morning my average went back to 22.
I'm trying to keep it as close to this as possible.

Most of the extreme downhills/uphills are probably here in HI. The worlds most grueling cycle ascent is supposedly Mauna Kea mountain, sea level to 13,800 ft in 42.5 miles!

This trip was from Mauna Kea summit 13,800ft +/- to sea level...

I have been getting 22-23 mixed in my 2.7 4WD access cab. I get 21-22 at 75-80 MPH, 23-24 at 70-75 and mid 20s at 55-60 MPH. It will drop to the teens QUICK if I punch it a lot and drive aggressively (well, as aggressively as you can in a 4-cyl Tacoma) so I usually just hang back.

My best tank was 26.9 MPG doing 55-60 on flat/country roads.

Maybe this is a west coast thing but I haven’t seen 55-60 on the freeway unless you’re getting pelted by rocks in the right lane behind a semi towing a tractor.
    Mostly 75-90 out here

Same for me on the East coast Interstates. I’d be mowed down by grannies driving 1973 Buick’s if I drove that slow, 70-75 and up here.

Like 2-lane roads/state highways through rural Georgia, north Louisiana, etc. The same roads would be 70-75 MPH here in TX but I don't dare speed out there, 60 MPH tops in a 55.

Your trip meter said 10 miles so it seemed as if you just filled up.

I was getting @Crowkiller06 picture and @mosccat picture mixed up. Maybe others are as well.

@Crowkiller06 I believe your pic. 25.3 is highly doable on HWY at 60'ish MPH and no hills.

@mosccat I thought people were calling BS on your 50+ MPG, but I see your trip was 100% downhill for 10,000 feet in altitude change over 45+ miles! Crazy. MPG also believable. Automatic or manual transmission? Must have been using gearing to keep at a safe speed most of the way down!
