This is an honest question with hopefully good discussion.....

Would you rather buy an SR5 for 27K and add after market parts to make it your own or a TRD Sport, OR, PRO for 36-42K and still add a few aftermarket parts to make it what you want. Also if I could get your thoughts on WHY you choose what you choose

Prices based off of toyota.com and I know they aren’t reality just using as a base number and I’m not looking to buy currently just asking the question

I would go with one of the TRD models

I got my or for 34 but if I could do it again I'd get an sr5 most likely. All the fancy or stuff didn't work as well as I would have hoped off road.

In my case I went that route so I could get a Manual Transmission, also like the equipment that comes in the OR.

I’m not picking up a new truck for a long time I’m just trying to start a discussion on what people think about the idea of going with an SR5 and building it up how you want.

I talked them down on an sr5 then advised I'd buy today if they gave me the off-road for the sr5 price.

I mean my thought is you could get an SR5 and put whatever suspension and an air locker and maybe a regear and still have money to spend??

I went with an off road because I bought into the Toyota brand of reliability. In my experience factory options last longer than aftermarket. Also, it's what I wanted.

I went with the TRD OR. First main reason is after 10 years of extensively modifying my cars I was tired of it along with the problems that came with the territory. The OR gave me the off road goodies I wanted and I could do some minor mods here and there to keep my occupied.

I guess my advice is if you're in the market to modify anyway and want ARB front/rear lockers, full suspension swap etc etc... then go for the SR5 to save some money up front. For my needs the OR ride height, suspension and off road goodies are more than enough.

Your pricing does sound right. There is not a 10k difference between SR5 and TRD OR or Sport. It’s more like 3k difference without added on accessories.

I went with a TRD OR w/tech package because I wanted a solid truck with the safety features that are useful every day. Based on your $27k estimate on an SR5, I paid around a $10-12k premium for those features. Whether the features are worth it to you is an individual preference.

What I can also say is I am completely content with my stock OR for now, at least until 100k miles when all the warranties expire. That gives me about 6 years to save up for some stupid stuff :smokertransformer:

Crazy that SR5 stands for Sport Rally 5 Speed Manual and they don't offer it with a Manual, lol.

Base SR5 is 2wd with 4banger. Price the same cab/drivetrain. I bought a TRD OR DCLB. A DCLB SR5 with 4wd is only 2k cheaper.
