Sure, but to compare apples to apples the TRD sport/Offroad are only 2k more then the SR5.

I actually made a list of everything the TRD OR had compared to the SR5 before I bought mine. For me it was worth the 2k price tag.

Honest thought...I wonder how many people got a TRD just to say they got a TRD without giving a second thought to what features it comes with. No knock on those people. Do what you what with your money. I’m just curious.

    I got a TRD because I wanted a manual.

I thought about getting a manual next truck but then I remembered I would clutch it for 30 mins of my hour long drive home from work.

Depends what you want to add.

If you want to add a hood scoop, get the Sport or Pro
If you want an off-road suspension and a rear locker, get the Off-Road or Pro
If you want a sedan ride and lotsa chrome, get a Limited
If you want to build a killer off-road rig, buy an SR or SR5 and go wild

A life-long Jeeper buddy of mine who built his own rigs followed this philosophy: order from the factory things you want that are too difficult/expensive to add, like automatic climate control, power sunroof, leather seats, etc., and forgo everything you know you are going to gut out, like shocks, springs, wheels, etc.

In Jeep world, his preferred trim was the mid-range Sahara, because it came loaded with comfort features, but saved him the money of going with Rubicon’s upgraded suspension and axles, which he knew he would toss out anyway.

    Hope that helps.

If you plan on keeping it forever go SR5 and do the mods. If you plan on selling it in a few years go Sport, OR, Pro or Limited... whatever you want because when you go to sell it, it'll keep more of its resale value compared to a not stock SR5. Just my opinion...

I bought a TRD (sport) because it was the only way to get a v6 manual transmission.

I still think it’s funny how I said I wasn’t getting a truck for a long time and people still say it’s up to you or whatever. Hahaha. I’m just trying to spark conversation

HAHA. I'm not really a base model person. Not at this point in my life, anyhow. I'm lucky enough that I don't need to choose food over a car note. My gut proves that.

I got the TRD-OR4X4 (to get the e-locker and the terrain modes, blah blah) with all the major factory upgrades (tech/comfort/etc packages). Skipped all the dealer add-ons.

I modified it over time (2016 model, got her in late 2015), so I got some use out of the stock truck parts. Added armor, changed the suspension, new wheels, etc. She'll never be "done," so there's no point in stressing about whether an Sr5 would have saved me money.

This is the last truck I intend to buy, so I wasn't really looking to cut corners.

TRD. Spend the extra now for higher trade in. Any add ons you do to the SR5 will get you nothing in trade in.

Saved a little money buying the SR5 because I've been wheeling since long before all the extras in the TRDs were ever thought of. I have no need for crawl control and lockers and whatever to get me where I'm going...plus I have a jeep for any real wheeling. Truck is mostly for hunting and winter driving.

I’m not a base model buyer either. If anything, I tend to gravitate towards the high-end trim levels. My eye starts wandering whenever I buy a vehicle that is missing key features.

These days I dislike the flashiness and the snob appeal of the top trim level. I seem comfortable buying the 2nd highest trim level in the lineup.

I went looking for an SR5 and ended up with an OR. In my case the difference was only $1200 and although I don’t need the crawl control and MTS, the locker is nice at times, the OR was an upgrade and just coming from owning a SR5, I knew before fall I would have to upgrade the highway tires that come with the SR5. So I ended up with an OR and I’m happy. If you going to do a lift and a bunch of upgrades a SR probably makes the most since money wise. FWIW.

I think this pretty much sums it up. For $2k more get the OR. Drive it around for a bit and decide if you really need all those upgrades over stock.
