More and more....mechanics just don't want to be bothered with high mileage transmission work. In the event that they service it and something fails, whether it has anything to do with their work or not, they'll be blamed for it. It's just easier to say, "don't touch it" or "the manufacturer says it's a lifetime fluid"....blah, blah, blah.

Zero harm in dropping the pan, changing the filter and throwing in a few new quarts of fluid. In fact, after doing that I would do at least 2 more DAFs over the next couple of weeks just to freshen the fluid even more.

I've done this to several Toyotas in the family with nothing but good results.

I recommend this...as do a lot of people.

Very much so. Drain, drop, clean, fill. If it doesn’t fall out the bottom of the truck, go ahead and swap the remaining fluid.

A lot of shops don’t want the liability of having worked “last” on an unmaintained high mileage trans.

OP, water pump and t-stat would be good ideas if you haven’t yet.

How does your suspension look? Would shocks/springs or new hardware help?

    Chassis/cab/radiator bushings?

Looks like your frosted headlights could use a refresh and your mud flaps seem to be pretty worn.

    New Mods in the works.
Got mine with 67k miles. Had the pan dropped and filter changed and fluid topped off shortly after. After lurking on here for 20k miles, I took it to Panama City toyota and had them doo a full flush because it was shifting hard and hesitant to down shift at a full stop for several seconds. After the flush, it shifted like a new tranny. Had Toyota replace the timing chain gaskets due to an oil leak. They replaced the water pump and Tstat for cost of parts as they had to remove them anyway. Water pump was beginning to leak. That was at 180k. I've kept the tranny filter changed at 60k intervals with a fluid top off since. Getting ready for another full flush at 250k in the next few months.
