My17 limited taco is a great disappointment . I have owned 11 of them all the way back to 1978 my first. 3 were v6 all were manuals except the current one any 08 I had.
This thing has so many power issues driveability I can't even go there.
Its a 40k SLED. And as for towing I doubt it could tow its way out of a paper bag. Had I known I would have kept my 15 v,6. Manual.
A tip Toyota seats are low on padding I added 2 " of foam to the seat bottom very easy to do it yourself.

First off, welcome to the forum. Sorry your sucks! I love mine. I'd suggest trading it off before the disappointment turns into something worse. Good luck with the replacement.

I shared the same feelings, sold mine. You won't be disappointed in the resale!

I'm amazed that people here vary so widely on opinions. Those of us that thought it was a slug, with horrible engine management (and other) issues and then people that think it is perfect, more fun to drive than previous little fast cars they have owned.

I swear it's as if there are two completely different 3rd gen Tacomas on the market.

so, yeah, it's a thing it seems.

i was the first in line to buy a Pro here in Tx and got the first MT Pro delivery here and couldn't have been happier at the time. i test drove two, both AT's, and felt they didn't at all represent the MT i was getting, partly due to the different rear gearing. the seats are easy to work with so little things like that didn't put me off.

but the motor drove like such crap i almost decided to sell the truck in the first month or two. but i felt i hadn't really tried to improve it, and it's a mod-friendly vehicle, so i made a plan and got to work. it took about 6 months of modding and tweaking, but i found the sweet spot. the first stopgap solution was a Pedal Commander, and then the Orange Virus ECU tune, which is no stopgap but a proper solution. that and all the other things (uca's, suspension bits, tires/wheels, seat customization, the list goes on) have brought me to the point to say: this is the greatest vehicle i've owned in 30+ years of driving, and i love the handling, motor, comfort, utility, etc etc etc. i really look forward to driving it every single time. very happy i stuck around and decided to make it right for me. OP may be able to do the same depending on what he's hoping to get out of it.

there may be some method to the madness. with some folks, at least.

I am happy with my stock truck with AT, but this is a really solid post- props for making it work to your expectations.

To those not happy, probably just upping the ante a little bit more and getting something you are happy with is a viable solution.

    Very nice!

There are. Automatics and Manuals :crapstorm:

Seriously, I have yet to see one of these threads come from someone with 3 pedals. I'm not gonna pretend my truck is perfect. The fact that I have to hold up our trail line to shift to 4L to get up moderately steep loose gravel hills without destroying my clutch is my biggest complaint (aka no torque at the bottom end, which is an unfortunate characteristic of the Atkinson cycle). But besides that, I enjoy driving the truck both on and off-road. I'm on 33's and still haven't really felt like there wasn't power where I expected it to be when I row my own gears.

You've probably been around the shitshow that is the OVtune thread enough to know, but the tune actually does make a difference at low speeds. Throttle response has been dramatically improved too. No I don't have stock in Mat's business.

Soo, @Artsvhuerger what's your next step?

Getting rid of it or sticking it out for a while and taking advantage of some performance options that are out there?

I traded a 2015 dclb sport for a 2017 ac Off Road, both automatics with V6's. I would not go back if offered the chance. This truck is quieter, better fuel mileage and I tow everything I towed with the 2015 with no problems. I guess luck in individual trucks must be a variable but I really enjoy mine, knock on wood as I realize things can change quickly. I changed the speakers, the only other thing I do not like about this truck is, it is all I want to drive, thinking seriously about selling my classics.
